Religion is the only connectivity between the spiritual and the physical, between God and man. That means, if you are not into religion no amount of science, philosophy and logic can prove the existence of God to you, only religion do.
The role of religion in human existence on earth is to make the mind conscious of God while he goes about with his day to day physical activities on earth.
For instance, Christianity is the kingdom of God already established on earth, It only exist in the minds of adherents of Christianity.
what has Christianity the kingdom of God offered to mankind?
It offers eternal life through Jesus Christ who is the giver of life and the spirit of God. But the fruit thereof is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, faithfulness, goodness, kindness, temperament, etc.
Now take note : the fruit of religion does not include religious practices like going to church, answerable to your pastor, pay tithe and other religious ordinances, therefore all these are never important in religion or importance of religion on earth.

In summary, religion is important in that it gives eternal life to mankind(as many who believes).
Religion also activate the fruits of the spirit which are love, joy, peace, kindness, etc which are truly the origin of every good things

Why is a hope in the after life needed? Religion promotes belief in the unproven. It promotes mysticism. Sciences promotes belief in concepts with backing evidence. Religion doesn't. Religion has outlived it's usefulness. Religion is not required in today's world.

we all will die someday, but not everyone will live again after they die, If i will have opportunity to live a again i better grab the opportunity.

if religion wasn't required i bet by now, after 2000 years religion would have faded away naturally because no one sensible is ready to keep believing in what is not useful.
