MARTINSVILLE, VA --

Martinsville Police are searching for two men who they say scammed a woman out of money.

Investigators say on Monday, November 15th, a man approached the woman at Liberty Fair Mall, and talked to her about needing a place to stay and eat. The woman walked with the man to McDonalds to get him some food.

While at McDonalds, the woman says a second man in a dark suit joined them. Both men told the woman that they had a large amount of cash, but could not take the money to Africa with them, and needed to find an "honest person" who would give half of the money to charity, and keep the rest. Both men wanted the woman to withdraw money from her bank as a sign of good faith.

Police say the woman and the two men then drove to her bank. The victim withdrew the money from her account, then one of the men took the money from her. In return, police say the men gave the woman a bag they claimed had their money in it. The men then left.

Once the woman opened the bag, she found it only had cut-up paper inside.

If you have any information, call Investigator Andy Petty at (276) 403-5300.

Of course they assume they were Nigerians, even if they had nothing to do with Africa or Nigeria for that matter. Couldn't they have faked Africa or Nigeria?

This actually sounds more like armed robbery than 419! With two guys beside her she was probably scared-stiff even before they opened their mouths!
