Why can't buhari economic team come up with a Serious resolution by controlling all commodity markets. Lets have approve market shop in every vicinity of the nation where the citizens can go to get real product. Starving all these smuggle product of patronization will surely discourage the smugglers. Mordernize Market like shoprite needs to be established to cater for it

It is wrong to wipe out a state considering Beninese are your blood related cousins. Their official state religion is Vodoun, Beninese worship many Nigerian gods. It would be wrong to wipe out their culture so the best thing to do is invest in Benin. There are tons of Nigerians living there and they would run the investments in your behalf.

Wake up out your slumber

N1.45trn annually?

Oh boy and that's not official oo

Fg should pass the key of Nigeria borders to me. Na straight to lagoon

As we are talking right now, goods are being smuggled through the same closed border by corrupt Custom officials.

The difference is, Customs make more money now and are tactical

This suggestion makes a lot of sense. Benin republic cannot survive without nigeria. Why can't nigeria kukuma adopt Benin as her pickin?

The Nigerian gvt should reduce the tariffs to 10% like Benin. If this is done, cars from Europe will be routed to Lagos by the importers instead of cotonou

That is grossly underestimated. This government should think out of the box for better ways of border policing using technology and also providing incentives to encourage local production of goods currently being smuggled into the country

Smuggled

What arithmetic do they use to measure the amount of smuggled goods

Do the smuggled goods pass through them officially for recording

If yes, why is it called smuggled goods

think, if Benin import goods worth 30naira, and they consume just 2naira of it, where did the rest go?? no traceable link to other west African countries except Nigeria.....there are several ways to detect this, it's not rocket science.

It MUST stop !

How can other countries be benefiting from such meanwhile our own economy is suffering? Come to think of it, why should the republic of Benin be the 2nd largest importer of rice in the world when the rice is not consumed in their country but Nigeria?

I thought it's only our CORRUPT LEADERS that were benefiting from the mess in Nigeria, now I see that even some west African countries are also enjoying this chaos.

Nigerians MUST say NO to smuggling and embrace legitimate transactions.

The book of Proverbs 13:11 says "wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished but he that gathereth by labour shall increase"

Benin republic economy survives and thrives on undermining Nigeria economy, if Nigeria reduces her imports tariffs to 10% today Benin republic will immediately reduces their own downward to something like 2℅.

U are the HQ of Poverty on earth, Closing borders will make it worse

This does not even make sense.

Why is there poverty?: because there’s no employment.

Why is there no employment?: Because there are a lot of dumping through imports that are killing our not too strong industries (majorly because of government- no infrastructure)

Even the European Union is protectionist by nature.

Closing the border is just a strategy to jostle things up a bit. (By now, our neighbors would have realized that they cannot do without our 200million people market,

That if the must access our market,, they must tackle smuggling. And pay their fair share to government as tariff. Plus it’s not a must to lower tariffs. As a matter of fact, raise tariffs.. and give tax holidays this will make the manufacturing come to Nigeria because they don’t want to lose the market.

You’ll agree with me that this closure of border has made a lot of rice milling company spring up in Nigeria recently. Same thing happened with tomato paste and vegetable oil. (No b ghost go work there. Na Nigerians which will reduce employment, increase government revenue generation etc etc

U are quite confused. Nigeria is the one who is supposed to tackle smuggling. U have thousands of corrupt custom officials who collect bribe and allow any good to pass thru.

Blatant silly lies.

There's no employment because u don't have electricity, not because of imports.

They can easily do without u and ur fake 200 million over bloated population, there are over 7.5 billion people on earth. Within a few months, Ghana and all these nations will find alternatives and sell their market and life would go on.

You see how you're trying to kee yasef over border closure, why is Ghana not looking for alternative markets to sell her goods instead of begging Nigeria to open up her border?
I'm sure if you've gotten other markets, your ministers, past and present presidents won't be begging us to open up

Your replies are unintelligent and honestly.. I’m trying to be modest.

Just few weeks ago, Thailand deputy president came to Nigeria and pleaded with our government to open borders so and to make rice come in.. and that it was affecting his country. Even proposing to reduce the price.
Do I need to remind you that we don’t share border with Thailand. Ghana, Togo, Benin republic and other African countries have come out and said the border closure is affecting them but PRECIOUS from Okoko maiko or somewhere in Ikorodu is saying those countries don’t need 200 million market. Speaks a lot about your knowledge of economics and market force.

You said it is a lie that rice mills are being built? Lmao, you’re in a proper deluded state. ( there are a lot of local rice in circulation now. Even Dangote has built one now.

You said there’s no employment because we don’t have electricity? Hmmmm (in as much as I agree that electricity is a necessity for industrialization... cheap imports(dumping) is equally a bane to our industries coming up.

Innonso makes good cars but you instead prefer to buy used imported Toyota

Innonso makes luxurious buses but your road transporter prefers to buy marcopolo

Innonso makes armored trucks but your military prefers to buy from Russia or somewhere else.

Instead of you to wear made in Nigeria apparels you’re Versace or Vuitton made in Italy.

We have become a consuming country Yet, you say there are no employment. As big as this country is.. we should be producing out food atleast.

Why is Trump raising tariffs of imports? Why is he telling all those companies to come to America if the want to sell to America? To bring jobs back to America. Wake up my friend wake up and smell the coffee.
