You are right, absolutely. And our kids is who I am worried about. Who knows what mistakes they will make. We all make mistakes but when we were growing up we didn't have to be worried that we and our families would be humiliated all over the internet forever and for the world to see. I believe nobody deserves it, no matter how stupid they are. And especially their families don't deserve it. This is one of the reasons why I want strict laws when it comes to people's privacy rights. Some families will take the law in their hands. I know a father who almost killed a boy who filmed his daughter when they were having intercourse. The girl didn't know she was filmed though but it is still on the internet and it can NEVER be taken back. Imagine.

You are welcome. smiley

yes the law is 33% part of the solution, as nobody should be filmed against their will (or have their intimacy violated)... but we also have to also be realistic here: many of the people who put such material online, do so "knowingly" for trending/likes/cheap fame purposes etc, not seeing the big picture. so 33% of the solution is making sure these clueless kids dont make these mistakes.

the final solution rests on PARENTS. this is the new social media era where its seen as "cool" to broadcast your everyday life, down to every single details. some are willing to walk outside butt nekkid, thanks to the Kim Ks and Mercy/Tacha of this world, who make it seem like nudity is synonymous with femininity. you have to be seriously lacking, as a person, if you think that showing your body (to get attention from total strangers) is something remotely positive.
so the hard work starts at home, as parents, its our duty to teach and raise our kids properly to make sure that they dont make such foolish mistakes. you have to be on top of your kids social media profiles (as well as their closed friends), and turn into some type of James Bond, making them understand that, if they are ashamed at their parents reading/seeing what they are posting online, then maybe it aint right to post it.

Certainly! But you can also make mistakes when you are 20. You know how love and passion can make a young person go gaga. How would you monitor an 18/19/20 years old boy or girl? I know you will say that at this age they should know better but again love/passion can make you lose your reasoning abilities. I know how foolish I was at 19. When I was in love at this age, I believed it would last forever and that there has never been greater love on this earth before. cheesy I thought I was Romeo and Juliet, just better and with a happy ending. grin Anyway ... I am derailing ...

I agree with you, we have to monitor kids and teach them media literacy, discuss such topics, the risks and benefits and trust they will make the right decisions. And law makers will hopefully do their part too.

Well said but even we as adults post things sometimes that we shouldn't. Technology has developed at such a pace that we have trouble catching up and adapting to new realities. There are parallels between the industrial revolution and the digital age, one of them is the fact that these are insecure times. People lack orientation.

i fully agree...

our job as parents is to raise our kids and instill in them the values needed for them to become law abiding rightful intelligent individuals. our jobs is about 12 to 16 yrs long because, if by the time your child reaches that age you havent done the proper work, then nothing can be done from that point on.... and school/friend/bad influences etc will take over and raise your child for you. even if you have raised your child the best, and given them the proper values, somebody can just come into their lives and erase all your hard work within a few months and turn your child into a stranger/zombie.
by the time that child has reached 18yr old, although my love for them will never change, if/when you fukc up, thats your cross to carry, not mine any longer. there is nothing i could tell a young adult child that will change anything anyway.

oh dont get me started on all this technology....but we have to be on top of it all and catch up with it, if we dont then we can simply call ourselves out of touch (out of time). i'd rather look silly but educated on the foolishness that these kids get into (apps, tech gears, even slang etc) instead of me being completely clueless about it... especially with younger ones going online. with all the HIGHLY stoopid "online challenge" trend that they get into, some normal kid can act a damn fool (or die), just because of trending purposes. i wont even dwell on the Condom snorting challenge, the fire challenge, the boiling water madness..... or even the blue whale thingy (slightly different and more real than the momo challenge).

yes we all have made mistakes or post something very silly, but as adults we fully take responsibility for the consequences of our action...something these young adults are not yet familiar with.

If not that Nigerians are like the most self-righteous brand of human specimen in the entire universe, I honestly don't understand how that sex video became something of a big deal enough to spawn an unending conversation. cheesy

All of una sef wey go look for the video just to watch am, are closet perverts and porn addicts. grin

People just heard that a sex video is trending, then rushed to watch it and then started having opinions, lol...

Sex Tapes and Depraved Viewers

In the past week another sex tape hit the Nigerian social media space. A young couple can be seen in the video in what is best called compromised positions. It happens that the two of them are students of Babcock University. Almost immediately after the tape was published, the university issues a statement saying that the boy in the tape had since been rusticated from the school; while the university has now taken the decision to also expel the lady.

In a bid to get more information on the story I thought I should view the tape myself. So I searched on YouTube and saw this seven minute video of a young man saying something like this:

“Eh, so what are you looking for? Sex tape abi? I don’t have any sex tape here o. I just want you to subscribe to my channel. You know, you people come here and watch me tell jokes all the time but you don’t follow my YouTube videos. Is it good? Now sex tape has been released and you are all running around looking for it. It is not here… Just subscribe to my channel; abeg…”

While his message was meant to be cheeky and a creative way to get people to follow his videos on YouTube, it turned out to be a rebuke on my own heart. What exactly did I need a sex scene for? The facts of the story were already in the public. So why was I looking for the video to validate the story? I realized that my own depraved mind was looking for something which was clearly pornographic but couched in the guise of a breaking news. It did not take long to see my heart. I repented.

Third, the viewers of the sex tapes are all guilty. That is you and me. Has anyone ever wondered why sex-tapes go viral? Viral means that something has gone everywhere – like the spread of a virus. The reason such videos go viral is because certain people are watching them. If you do not watch a video and choose not to pass it on to the next person, the video will stop right there on it tracks. But there is a depravity in all of us that loves to see nudity. Many of us do not watch pornography but we enjoy the sight of others being exposed while doing what people should be doing in private. It is sin in us that makes us crave to see sex tapes and this is where repentance is required of us all. We are all guilty.

The boy had been expelled a long time ago from the school for drugs. She visited him in the hospital while he was sick and that's the sex tape video thingy. Sources said the sex video was a long time matter but the boy slept with his friends gf, the friend started sharing the video to the guys as pay back. The video entered the victim's enemies hand(the phone of a gal who doesn't like the gal in the sex video). That's the end

lol... you MUST know and educate yourself about all of them, so you can either warn them about such stoopidity and/or see the sign if they fall into such trend. but even if you remove the internet from the equation, then they could just go to a friends place and get high on some weed etc
look him/her dead in their eyes as they come back home to see if their pupils are dilated, thats the main sign for you to become James bond again. lol!

it aint easy but has to be done!
