Hello everyone, I am new to this section of nairaland so I'd like to be welcomed with a clear, detailed, explanation of what the term "six figure salary" means,

Few days ago, in a thread that made front page, I was challenged on my explanation of what a six figure salary means, and to my understanding, it means a six digit number of an income starting from 100,000 to 999,999 regardless of the currency and value, but i was countered that it means 100,000 dollars according to the value, meaning a six figure salary has to do with the American dollars, currency and value, he even brought up a screenshot of a Google meaning which I still told him the currency doesn't matter, he then said six figure salary is an American word, not an English word, meant to be used solely by Americans(weird right), at the end, we agree to disagree, but I still wasn't satisfied that is why I am here,

Scholars can pls say their take on it to know which is right or wrong for future reference, thank you.

The point I think the other person was making was the story was fake.

Earning six figures in Nigeria where the op's setting was, is monthly and the term is not used there because yearly income would be millions, that's seven figures.

No, his explanation was general not based on that story, people earn six figures monthly regardless of the amount it is, his argument was that, a six figure salary is an American term solely for American dollars because of its value, which to me is wrong, a six figure salary knows no value, it is just the numbers 1 2 3 4 5 6, but he still didn't agree, so I want to know if I'm right or wrong.

Six figures would not mean the same in Nigeria because its monthly, so a yearly calculation would amount to millions.

Also, Nigerians dont specify their income like Americans, they cant or wont tell you exactly how much they make because the information is considered secret.

100,000 - 999,000 can be enlisted in 6 figures, hence any individual who claims to earn within "Six Figures" earns within that range .

The currency is not a particular concern, attention to the subject should give you a clear explanation of the currency being referred .

Thirdly, there's no law whatsoever that proclaims American dollars as the stable currency in any reference of Six- Figures whatsoever .

Lastly, I earn Six figures (In Zimbabwean dollars) .

Annually it would be seven figures. So ours should be seven figures sef, if we go by how they arrived at theirs.

funny enough, many Nigerians think 6 figures is from one million above.
