A lot of pple dont flow with afrobeats music. Even in felas days most Nigerians listened to sunny ade and obey. Afrobeat is not party music, it's lounge jazz introspective type music. Its an acquired taste. Whites love it cos it's different & instrumentally rich in comparison to their mainstream music.

When it's mixed wt pop like wizkids 'jaiyejaiye', 'sweet love' and some of Burna's songs like 'killing dem', 'ye'. It becomes palatable. If Burna's whole catalogue was songs like 'anybody', he wouldn't have much naija fans too.

A lot of naija people still don't listen to femi kuti. Most street pple prefer apala-juju drum music, people like olamide do a pop version of that.

Fela brought this strain of music from outside our culture. He studied orchestra music in the UK, travelled around Africa, mixed in some high life. The resulting sound is genius and original, but I think majority of pple still gravitate towards our cultural music sounds.
