El Rufai went into exile the moment Yaradua became president because he was determined to treat his 'Bleep ups' which OBJ condoned, while he was FCT Minister.

He never returned until Yaradua died in 2010 and GEJ became president. When it was apparent that GEJ was going to run again for president in 2011, he became one of GEJ's nightmares in the North, hurling all sort of verbal attacks against him.
