Did you read the post ? He actually said the house of assembly should come out with laws to determine what is false and what's not. that would help to draw a line.

People should be held for their action ...posting based on miss information should be a crime ? Where do u draw the line

Bros Seun, with all the money and influence you have, what are you going to do to stop this bill that will definately slow down your biz?

It does not cover lying on social media against the state, lies that are enough to cause civil unrest. E.g. someone would just wake up to write about an ongoing war in a particular state and that certain group people are being killed. Reprisal attacks start somewhere else with resultant loss of lives. You go to the first place and find nothing, yet the same person still goes on posting similar news in the future and even has many followers who are graduates, though enlightened enough to discern.

Well said.

No, he has NO point!

The present Federal Government is the greatest DELIBRATE publisher of false information; and any law/penalty MUST first be enacted and enforced against her officers and agents - from the very top to bottom - before ANY law is enact against the public.

Governments at every level in Nigeria are the original BRAZEN perpetrators of falsehood, scams, packaged yahoo yahoo etc, against the Nigerian people; before some of the people (and organisations) reciprocated the 'gesture'.

The government can easily solve the problem by respecting Nigerians enough to stop the culture of lying to us; promptly release info which Nigerians consider relevant; and minimise their plundering of the nation!!!

DELIBERATE INFORMATION VACUMES WILL ALWAYS BE FILLED - ONE WAY OR ANOTHER BECAUSE NATURE ABHORES VACUMES!

So will attempts to expose government falsehood, propaganda and scams be relentless, in man's attempt to get the truth in their god-given right to freedom; and consequently their god-given right to circumvent their oppressors and captors!

NIGERIA IS NOT A FEUDAL REPUBLIC!!!

And spreading your own fake and false news is how you expose government propaganda?

If you don't spread fake news and hate speech, you have nothing to fear.

If you don't spread fake news and hate speech, you have nothing to fear.

Let their army of media aids actually do the job which they are being paid to do, by promptly countering any info which they consider inaccurate or "fake" with the truth - supported with evidence.

As for the so called "hate speech", the term is highly subjective and it will only end up being weaponised against imagined enemies of State actors, their cronies; and effectively bury the opposition - leading to a one-party state and the the actualusation of the demonic third-term agenda!!!
Furthermore, there are enough existing laws to address anything that can can remotely classified as "hate speech".

This bill is nothing but an attempt to silence Nigerians; AND IT WILL NOT WORK!
This is 2019 and the world has since moved on from this type of tyranny and oppression, dressed as regulation.

ALL GOVERNMENT OFFICERS -WITHOUT EXCEPTION, NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT THEY ARE ALL PAID EMPLOYEES OF THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE, NOT OUR LORDS OR MASTERS; AND WILL THEREFORE NOT BE PERMITTED TO SILENCE US.

Nigerians have been scammed by too many governments, too many times to swallow this scam!

Government, their syncophants and paid goons need to wake up from their delusions.

NEVER AGAIN!!!

Re: Keyamo: There Must Be Penalty For Posting False Information On Social Media by Nobody: 7:53pm On Dec 02, 2019
Who actually determines what is hate speech as far as Nigeria is concerned? Are the crooked politicians the ones who determine that? Just because as a politician and in your usual boastful and self-importance ways, you are irritated by a constituent's statement about you albeit truthful then you declare it a hate speech. That does not necessarily make it so. The law has to determine what is considered hate speech and not politicians and those in power declaring willy-nilly what hate speech is. Doing so would set a very dangerous precedent thus making what is considered "hate speech" fluid and arbitrary depending on who is defining the term.

Buhari APC government should continue violating the civil rights of the masses, by 2023 elections they will know how far. No amount of rigging can save you from losing.

If I hear say APC lose 2023 elections.

Nigerians would once again hand it over to them in exchange for bags of rice, salt and bottles of groundnut oil and/or 500-1000 Naira.

What a joke of a country!

A statement like 'Monkeys and the Baboons will be soaked in blood'?

Kare kini biri jini is not any hate speech. If you have a relation who understands hausa proverbs and whom you trust not to engaged in mischief for political reasons, ask them the meaning of the proverb.

See, fake news must be punished. Freedom of speech is not madness.
