COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS) ZONE D 2019 CONVENTION HELD AT LAGOS STATE COLLEGE OF HEALTH TECHNOLOGY (LASCOHET) ON SATURDAY 7TH DECEMBER , 2019.

The Convention proper started with the accreditation of Senators and two nominations was made for the Convention Chairman namely Sunday Asefon (Asefon) and Adeyemi Samson (Samrich). Sunday Asefon rejected the nomination on the rationale of being an aspirant for the office of National President of the Association. Adeyemi Samson automatically became the Convention Chairman and he proceeded to the dissolution of the outgone executives whilst appreciating the Coordinator, General Secretary and Assistant General Secretary as they were present at the Convention.

The house proceeded to the constitution of the Communique Drafting Committee (CDC) with the nomination of Comrade Abidoye Omololu Victor (CASTRO) as Chairman of the CDC who in turn rejected the nomination stating that he is no longer a student and that a student should be appointed instead. The Communique Drafting Committee (CDC) was then unanimously appointed by the entire house and was announced by the Convention Chairman. The house appointed Olayiwola Taiwo (OYO) as Chairman, CDC. Lawal Qudus (LAGOS) as Secretary, CDC. and Rahmon Opeyemi (OSUN) as Member, CDC.

After the formation of the CDC, the entire house unanimously agreed to proceed with the Election. The Coordinator election was to take place first. Comrade Tiamiyu Taiwo (Federal College of Animal, Health and Production Technology) nominated KAPPO as Coordinator of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Yahya Muhammed (College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti).

Comrade Ajibade Quazeem (Federal Polytechnic, Ede) nominated KALUSA as Coordinator of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Adeyemo Akeem (Osun State University).

Comrade Shabi Awwal (Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education) nominated HIDMAS as Coordinator of the Zone. The nomination was seconded by Comrade Semasa Ojo (Yaba College of Technology).

The Convention Chairman upon the agreement of the house asked that KAPPO, KALUSA and HIDMAS be invited into the election hall. KAPPO and HIDMAS came into the hall while KALUSA was declared not present after the house waited for 15minutes. HIDMAS demanded that he is given the audience to address the whole house which was obliged by the Convention Chairman. HIDMAS in his address stated that he earlier released a statement notifying the entire public of his withdrawal from the race and that he is standing by decision in the interest of having a unified Zone. He thanked the Senators for the opportunity offered to him to serve the Zone as the Coordinator. KAPPO and KALUSA was to go into the election to decide who becomes the Coordinator. KAPPO was given Code 1 while KALUSA in his absence was assumed to have taken Code 2. The Code is what the Senators would inscribe on the ballot for their preferred candidate.

The Convention Chairman moved to append his signature on the ballots to be used for the election. The signature authorises the validity of the ballot. Comrade Ajibade Quazeem (Federal Polytechnic, Ede) sued that signing of ballots was wasting time. The Convention Chairman replied that it is for the sake of transparency and that only ballots with his signature will be counted. The house later agreed that only the Coordinator ballot should be signed, others should just be counted and used. The Convention Chairman asked the Clerk to pass an attendance carrying the following information :name, institution and signature to verify the Senators present. It was counted that 36 senators were present and 36 ballots was to be used for the election. Comrade Omoniye Samson(Moshood Abiola Polytechnic) asked that the ballot should be counted to the general public there present.
