What Dora Akunyili Should Rebrand In This Country by Mbeki: 9:41pm On Nov 25, 2010 |
The name Nigeria should be changed from what Lord Lugard's mistress gave the territory since inception; other African countries did that. Gold Coast- Ghana Upper Volta-Burkina Faso. Nigeria was formerly called slave coast before the Lord Lugard mistress renamed it Nigeria. Other names that needs immediate change. Lagos (Lagoon in Portuguese) Should be named EKO Escravos (Slave) should be renamed Freedom city Port Harcourt should be renamed Port Jaja Nigeria should be deleted and befitting name should be used, until then, the country is still not independent. |

What the country need are issue based re-branding; one is to change the name "NIGERIA" the name means something but makes no sense, or give any hope or sense of belonging. The nation should take a good name for herself. |

zionic: No it's not, just like Jacob in the bible didn't amount to anything till his name was changed to Isreal. The colonial masters gives name to their territory then as mockery of their state of existence then. |

Nyasa land-Malawi Northern Rhodesia-Zambia Southern Rhodesia-Zimbabwe Namibia-South West Africa Republic Bechuanaland-Botswana Methinks, the change of a country's name is superficial and mundane and can be likened to a situation whereby instead of finding a cure to leprosy you are busy looking for the antidote for ringworm. Bad leadership is simply the bane of Africa |

All the countries that have had a name change, where are they today? Only Ghana is making some sort of headway. Name change is not our problem at all. Fix power and everything else will follow |
Re: What Dora Akunyili Should Rebrand In This Country by mensdept: 1:55am On Nov 27, 2010 |
^^^^^^^^ Quite the contrary. Many of those countries actually are more stable. @poster, of course I agree with you, a total re-branding and name change as opposed to remaining a Niggaaar area that Oyibo has and still thinks we are. |
Re: What Dora Akunyili Should Rebrand In This Country by Mbeki: 10:11pm On Nov 27, 2010 |
mens dept: You just need to mention the name Nigeria abroad for people to be regarding you with caution! too bad you know? |
Re: What Dora Akunyili Should Rebrand In This Country by sirvick(m): 10:31pm On Nov 27, 2010 |
re-branding is not realy the issue here, eg, our re-brandered e-passport has no meaning when u land to another country with a nigerian e-passport, u will be search like u are from another planet, guys our problem is not re-branding, our problem is us in general |

Re: What Dora Akunyili Should Rebrand In This Country by cap28: 12:48am On Nov 28, 2010 |
Mbeki: I am in total agreement with you, but the change should only happen when we become an emancipated nation ie free from the current puppet administrations that we have had since 1960. Failing that we might as well go back to calling ourselves the slave coast since we are still in chains (mental). |

The national flag. With how coloful we are, green and white are too bland to reprez us. QED-tell them i said so. |
Re: What Dora Akunyili Should Rebrand In This Country by Mbeki: 4:50pm On Nov 28, 2010 |
cap28: True talk, the country is just a puppet in the hand of many nation, some for political reasons, some for religious, some for economic reasons. It's only in Nigeria that they allow foreign nationals to come in unchecked, if they are spies or not, does not border anyone, as a result, we're still mentally enslaved to other countries. |

rebranding project is a welcome develoment. My problem with it is about what and whom we are rebranding for? If we're rebranding just 2 get wide acceptance and commendation from the international community, we're get'n it d wrong way. Cos d homefront here shld be considered too. Rebranding shld start 4rm within. 9jans are greedy. Our leaders are saddists 4 'saddis has become d ruling class religion, cos of their inglorious silence'. I believe dt d change in attiude shld start 4rm d head. They're d cause of our problem. Diaz not'n wrong wt d name . .nigeria |

NIGERIA is not a nation, but a mere geographical representation of some ethnic groups found somewhere in West Africa and forcefully authourised to stay under the shackles of the name. No matter how anyone tries, the truth is that from top to down and down to top, we will always see each other as different people but under the pretense of NIGERIANS. Some people say our individual attitudes should change, this is TRUE but the announcer himself will not change how much more the 150,000,000 people. Or how easy is it for a parent to change the attitude of a teenage son or daughter, most times impossible. Corruption is the order of the day in Nigeria, forget about politics, even in our offices and businesses. The so called corruption will increase by the day (forget about the repainting/rebranding of a dilapidated house) and even a serious revolution will only pause it, cannot stop it. Until we are allowed to bear the names we used to bear and stand for the people we used to be before the (berlin conference) and before the arrival of Lord Lugard and his wife, we aint seen nothing yet (pls no offense and not a curse). |
