There is no such provision in the amended Amcon act of 2019. The salient provisions are as regards giving Amcon access to the bank accounts of debtors and extra powers to recover debts even using extra judicial means

There is no amendment on the existing appointment of chairmen or requirement that they must be deputy governors of CBN

Whoever came with this article is in bad faith

Tinubu's Team has never been in support of Banire, and the entirety of senators from Lagos State sought to block Banire's nomination for the post by Buhari. So your entire postulation falls flat on its face.

In other words, Banire was a rebel out of Tinubu's camp. Banire was simply propped up by the then Odigie-Oyegun-led NEC of their party, the APC and in the process got Buhari to insist on Banire for the AMCON job.

So, the Tinubu camp can now say in all honesty, that "we told you so!"

The Tinubu camp is the party having the last laugh in this instance, actually.

For the records, CBN currently has four Deputy Governors listed below:

Dr. Okwu Joseph Nnanna;
Mrs. Aishah N, Ahmad;
Mr. Edward L. Adamu; and
Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi.

It is assumed all these four are competent hands to have been appointed Deputy Governors in the first place.

While we concede to President the prerogative to exercise his discretion as he deems fit, I think wise counsel and political expediency ought to have dictated to him that some degree of balancing was required moreso when the current MD of AMCON, Ahmed Kuru is also from the North (Kano).

He could easily have picked among the two southern Deputy Governors and steer Nigeria away from another Federal character controversy.

Apart from the MD, the other serving EDs are EBERECHUKWU UNEZE and AMINU ISMAIL.
