This bill is Jonathan's brainchild. He spoke of it when it was still a bill.

It's good to say the truth in the benefit of all not self benefit. People thought then that Jonathan was trying to extend his rule.by 2 years. People with flat reasoning.

It obviously has several advantages beyond the current 4 years double term.

6 years single term. No re-election.

Best for Nigeria. Jonathan stayed just under 6 years.

The president can be himself right away and focus on leaving a legacy than being cagey to secure a second term. Rotation can also be better achieved. After 30 years, each geopolitical zone will have produced a president, the last one just taking office by then. As things stand now, after 30 years, SE or NE might not have produced a president. That cannot be good for national unity.

The law could have been passed to commence in 2023 since Bubu is already in his second term.

In fact some wise ones could see beyond Obasanjo's trickery when he wanted to establish a 7 year single tenure. The plan was to turn Nigeria into another African country with a pseudo-dictatorship.

It is nothing different from what we are experiencing at the moment, it just saves them the stress of having to rig elections every 4 years. Rigging elections is a very expensive racket.

i dont think nigerians are against it. during the gej era there where fears in some quarter that he is trying to extend his stay in office not that the idea is bad all together.

It doesn’t make sense in its totality as we have law breakers as lawmakers and a very useless and ineffective and inefficient executive coupled with a corrupt judiciary I’d say 3yrs instead of this ridiculous four years.....!!!so that would be max 6 years cos 3years enough to start making visible changes and bring about meaningful all round development which should now bring about the extension of such candidates term!
