Ondo State Government yesterday said the swearing in of Engineer Rauf Aregesola as the Governor of Osun State is a clear indication that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is no longer relevant in the scheme of things in the South West states.

The state government in a congratulatory message to the people of Osun State signed by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ranti Akerele, said the hope of the people stolen via rigging and manipulation under former President Olusegun Obasanjo had been restored through the judiciary.

According to Akerele, the South west region was back to where it truly belonged in the camp of the progressives who were committed to the development of the down-trodden masses.

His words, “the politics of the Yoruba’s in general has mostly been progressive right from the 19th to the 21st century. The Yorubas’s are known to have always been at the vanguard of progressive policies, ideas and programmes in Nigeria .

‘The Alliance for Democracy won in the entire South West in 1999 and because of momentary loss of concentration and the deceit of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo who is an expert in subterfuge and deception lured them into false safety and lost to the massive rigging of Obasanjo in the 2003 elections.
“By 2007, our people had got wiser. Therefore through their votes began to chase out the PDP charlatans which the people have come to see as not having their interest at heart. From Ondo, Edo , Ekiti and Osun States , one by one our people votes out these pretenders”.

Akerele noted that it was no surprise that despite the massive electoral fraud perpetrated by the PDP in 2007, the judiciary had risen up to the task with unparalleled determination to declare true winners of governorship elections in Ondo, Edo, Ekiti and Osun states.

The commissioner added that the Labour Party government in Ondo State found good company in other South west states which are now being run by equally progressive and legitimately elected governors.
He stressed further that the Mimiko-led government has proved to the people of the sunshine states in less than two years that you can reverse the ugly trend of massive looting of people’s resources which the PDP represented before in the state.

‘We are now mostly bordered by progressive governments and governors. Lagos, Osun, Ekiti and Edo states geographically. When you have other progressive governors around you, it energizes you to borrow ideas from them,” Akerele added.

The commissioner pointed out that anybody who wants to seek for votes in Ondo State cannot ignore the wild acceptability of the Labour Party, stressing that, “That is the reality of things; that is why in Akure when the news of Aregbesola’s victory was read, people came out on Friday to jubilate on the streets”.
