Lagos State government has begun the removal of roundabouts located at junctions discovered to be responsible for the perennial traffic congestion experienced in the state.

This was made known to IgbereTV correspondents during a media chat with the Lagos State commissioner for Transport, Dr. Frederic Abimbola Oladeinde at the ministry’s secretariat on Friday.

The commissioner said,
“We have since the early days of the administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State committed ourselves to ensuring reduction in traffic congestion by resolving key grid lock points. We started off through discovery of 60 traffic gridlocks junctions and areas across the state.”

“Seven pilot schemes were unlocked, we progressed in the traffic management measures to 27 locations and now we are working on four major junctions by removing the roundabouts presently causing chaos during turning movements. The identified four roundabouts are, Ikotun, 2nd roundabout on Lekki-Epe Expressway, Allen Avenue roundabout and Maryland, each of the projects will take four months to complete.”

“Pedestrian activities; Chaos during turning movements; Inefficient roundabouts, roundabouts insufficient to cater for heavy traffic volume leading to operational challenges and increased delay during peak hour flow, are responsible for the traffic build ups.”

He ended the chat by reiterating the committment of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration in permanently solving the traffic problems in Lagos State.

Lagos always coming up with programmes that affect our business even though we are responsible for its development. We also own about 95% of the landed properties but they won't just let us be because of hate.

We still remain the most successful tribe in the world, so they can go to blazes.

no it doesn't

use Owerri as a case study, Mr Rochas constructed numerous Roundabouts, yet the traffic issues wasn't solved,, rather it getting worst, gridlock everywhere

Roundabout should be replaced with T junctions, having a yellow box, marked vividly,,with traffic lights

nice move from Lagos State government

..... Give way to car by the left? Technically it still doesn't solve the problem, Traffic flow should be timed and regulated using traffic lights...

Forget roundabouts for now.

Lagosians, please who knows the cause of the traffic usually experienced along Lagos Abeokuta expressway. Just to get to National after Ikeja Along and notice there's really nothing reason causing that traffic daily!

That road should be taken as priority in fighting traffic.

Roundabouts are supposed to ease traffic, but many of them, scattered across Nigeria are actually problems. They are too large, leaving too little space for vehicles to move freely.
Many roundabouts can actually accommodate football fields! The one that was celebrated in Anambra yesterday is a typical example!

They can as well remove all the roundabouts in Lagos state, it won’t stop the mammoth traffic.
Constructing and alternative roads , creating new CBD to decentralize the major hotspots is the of the ways to decongest Lagos.

Lagos should find a way to stop the troops of illiterate hausas and Nigér people who troop into the state and are ready to sleep anywhere in the name of their hustle. Also something has to be done about those Ebonyi people selling gala, rat poison and fake products. Complete nuisances

I remember when the lekki roundabouts were newly constructed, I was bewildered and we discussed how ridiculous it is. only a line of block should've sufficed, so the government is just waking up now imagine
