He escaped jail at age 24 in 1979. He had 7 years to serve out of 18 years jail term. He would have finished his term in 1986 at age 31 or even before.

Life at 31 years and after is still a better life to be spent productively in freedom and peace of mind without having to lay low all his life in horrible fear and apprehension of being caught that he had engaged himself doing all these 40 years. It must have been 40 miserable years of tension for him.

If it is in Nigeria , the mans case will be forgotten because at the time he was captured , the policeman who captured him is a pensioner , the police station is now dilapidated room , rats and ants must have eaten up his file , the DPO handling his case must have been dismissed , no picture or data as at the time of arrest . . . . .

An inmate who escaped from a South Carolina Department of Corrections work crew in 1979 was captured in Delaware on New Year's Day, according to the department.

Jose Chico Romero, 64, had been living under an assumed name when he was first arrested December 28, 2019 after showing Dover police a fake ID, according to Chrysti Shain, director of communications for the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

Police processed and released him under the fake name Arnaldo Figueroa but his fingerprints later came back as a match for wanted Romero.

He was arrested on Wednesday.

He is being held in Georgetown, Delaware, on a fugitive warrant and has waived extradition.

He is also charged with public intoxication, loitering, trespassing, forgery, criminal impersonation and being an out-of-state fugitive.

Romero was serving an 18-year sentence for armed robbery when he managed to escape from a work crew in Anderson County, South Carolina, on December 13, 1979.

After he is returned to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, Romero will be required to serve the remainder of his original sentence, which is about seven years, plus any time added for an escape conviction, Shain said.

Even Nigeria system is working, the problem are the people living in Nigeria. Look at some post before yours, some are already asking that he should be released.

I like ur comment, it completely tackles the assertion by most Nigerians who think that it's only in Nigeria you can have a porous system

There is a difference between a perfect system and a working system.
The former doesn't exist

Forget story. The system is truly working. Have you heard of or read about Theodore Robert Bundy. Check that out then u will know u don't mess with the US and go free.

If the system is not working, they would have forgotten about the man. Close his case and assumed him to be dead and old age did not even stop them from noticing. If the system was not working, criminal like invinctus obi would have continued to deceive us all. Think guy, think. The dude was just smart enough to have stayed out of radar all those years.

So you want to tell me that for 40 years, that guy did not use a bank, make any transaction and no camera spotted him?

I did not say the system wasnt working. I just said he beat the system. If that guy didnt commit a crime, he wouldnt have been found.

He escaped for 40 years....40 whole years. Think guy, think
