That's SON registration number for the producer of your cylinder. It has nothing to do with expiry date.

Very educative information
I have seen a lot of barbaric cylinders and I wonder does people value their safety. I have a friend who has a workshop that he fill gas for people. I have seen rusted, dented and peeled cylinder that even my friend will b so disgusted to fill it Nd there are some cylinders that the opening in the mouth has been loose and after filling he will b struggling to put back the cover/tap bringing out the fire so that the gas doesn’t waste away.. I quickly went to see the expiry date on the two cylinders of mine lol tho bought it last year but I think the best safety is just to put the gas cylinder outside then channel a hose to the inside of the cooking place..

What is the 'shelf life' of a cylinder? Your post did not state it.

For instance, if a cylinder was manufactured in June 2020, how long can it last?

Someone mentioned he has D30 on his cylinder; this is B21 i.e. the cylinder expires in 9 years time.

Too many people buy repainted cylinders thinking they just got something new.

Maybe one should consider plastic cylinders.

They can't be repainted (hopefully), lighter and more pleasing to the eyes cheesy

I never knew there were plastic cylinders, are they safer than the usual cylinders?

If your cylinder was mounted correctly, with:
1. no breakage on the hose
2. No loose fittings
3. Your kitchen is well ventilated (assuming the cylinder is in your kitchen)
4. No leakage on the cylinder
5. The cylinder is new
6. You dont refill beyond the stipulated KG
7. Your village people don't know your location... that can never happen. So relax, okay.

Plastic cylinders won't be able to hold pressurized LPG.

I actually read through this link with genuine interest cos I want to be sure there's such a thing as an LPG cylinder made of plastic.
Bukatyne, there's no where it's written there that it's made of plastic na... or is it composite fiber glass casing you assume to be plastic?

Standard Organisation of Nigeria said it takes 15 years for gas cylinders to expire.
And that the date people mistake for expiry date is actually the due date for inspection of the cylinder
