HIV CONTROL: Gov Okowa Launches Delta State Antiretroviral Theraphy (ART) Surge Response

The Delta State Governor Sen Ifeanyi Okowa today in conjunction with the United States Centre for Disease Control, preside over the launch of Delta State Antiretroviral Theraphy (ART) Surge Response

The ceremony took place at the state government house Asaba

About the Antiretroviral Theraphy (ART)

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) consists of the combination of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs to maximally suppress the HIV virus and stop the progression of HIV disease. ART also prevents onward transmission of HIV. Huge reductions have been seen in rates of death and infections when use is made of a potent ARV regimen, particularly in early stages of the disease. WHO recommends ART for all people with HIV as soon as possible after diagnosis without any restrictions of CD4 counts. It also recommends offer of pre-exposure prophylaxis to people at substantial risk of HIV infection as an additional prevention choice as part of comprehensive prevention. Countries are now following to adapt and implement these recommendations within own epidemiological settings.

There's no cure for HIV, but treatment options are much better than they were a few decades ago. Because of medical advancements, people can now live long, active lives with HIV.

Before you start treatment, tell your doctor about all of your past health issues and illnesses. Let him know about any alternative or complementary therapies you're using, as well as any supplements or drugs you're taking now: prescription, over-the-counter, and recreational.

Daily medication and regular testing can help keep the virus under control and slow the effects on your body for many years.

ART (Antiretroviral Therapy)

The medicines that treat HIV are called antiretroviral drugs. There are more than two dozen of them, and they fall into six main types. Each drug fights the virus in your body in a slightly different way.

Research shows that a combination, or "cocktail," of drugs is the best way to control HIV and lower the chances that the virus will become resistant to treatment. Your doctor will probably recommend that you take three different medicines from two of the groups.

Which specific ones your doctor prescribes depends on what other medical conditions you have, what medications you take, how well your immune system is working, and even how many pills you want to take each day.

Good Job. And THERE IS A CURE AND VACCINE FOR HIV. IN AMERICA, YOU CAN GET BOTH FOR FREE. And the vaccine is not a cocktail but one pill a day. Theres no cure for AIDS though, as far as I know. That's why it's very important to get tested

Good one by a rather clueless governor. When are we going to build and manage world class facilities though? These buildings are from the 1950s era shaaa
