Once, the Church represented light in a scary place.

"Come unto me all you sinners", said Christ.

"And change your ways."

Truth. Honesty. Keeping a straight path. That's what made one a pastor - a leader of men, and minds.

The Word had weight and pricked the conscience. Men with evil deeds were scared of stepping into its light; it was welcoming only if one sought repentance....


Then the wolves struck....





The wolves do not first appear as wolves; the best lies are as close to the truth as possible. The wolves appeared just as Christ, looked like him, sounded like him, spoke like him.. they quoted copiously from the Word, and said prayers in his name.

The Church learnt the ways of the world, and turned Jesus into a brand. The Nazarene's blood would make billionaires of mortals.

The brand became 'Jesus'. Every other day became a mini-Sabbath; regular church meetings , prayers, breakthroughs... Christianity became a culture, a way of life, an identity.

A sign that you are US, and not THEM. You are of CHRIST, not of the DEVIL. You are SAVED, not like those UNSAVED.

And the US varied - there was Pentecostal, Charismatic, New Revival, Old Revival, Big God, and so much more. Like a buffet for pigs, Christianity had everything for everyone.

And the pigs, came with their friends, and soon their mud, and all the treasure in it.

Did it? The Church was once filled with individuals who represented the Church as a "light in a scary place"?

If the Church did once represent light in a scary place, then I feel certain we can fill the Church with individuals who represent the Church as a "light in a scary place" today if scary places still need enlightening.

That said, I doubt the validity of your "Once". There are many today who claim the Church is a light in their scary place.
