Not true , the herds was matched to the chief palace for safekeeping because the Fulani herdsmen took to their heels.
you dont expect them to let the cattle stray away when the herders has ran away.

Seun , Lalasticlala , The heading is misleading.

Why did the herdsmen run? They should have waited and asked the stupid question. Stupid animal.

You can also go to the Community and ask on their behalf and see what happens to you.

That's why we tell you to leave your villages and visit other parts of the country

I have a friend who owns hectares of farm land , oil , yam ,cocoyam, maize, sorghum, rice , cucumber, water melon, all are being rotated on different portions of the land , i have been to the farm myself ,saw the delivery of equipments, i helped purchase seeds and seedlings from agric and also dry seasons like this we drain the rivers and pack fishes then expand the rivers by so doing

My point here is some people invest heavily in agric products and farming , so if you think some farms are not worth measly 100-300k then you really need to see beyond your nose

It gets to a point when one gets tired of counting deliberate losses and even deaths; the only option left would then be to completely get rid of the unrepentant sources of those issues and I expect the community to do just that rather than keep going for useless settlements when in less than a few weeks the perpetrators return and are armed to the teeth! The cows should be sold and proceeds used to settle the victims as damages. Since the silly herdsmen have destroyed their businesses/sources of income, theirs should be stripped from them too. That's justice.
DaBullIT:
hmmmmm,

the narrative is changing , yesterday they said fulani men ran away and left their cows , today they are saying the residents seized the cows

either way , as long as nothing happens to the cows , there won't be conflicts whatsoever

IMO , it's better how the cows were seized or taken somewhere , the Seriki of those herdsmen will have to go and negotiate with that baale so they herdsmen can pay for the damages , Yes , i have seen cows damage crops , i have been involved in resolving a dispute like that, it's not always pretty

I pray they resolve the issue amicably , no cows will be stolen or killed in retaliation that's certain , nobody will drive the herdsmen away from the town

But more importantly when farmers and residents want to claim damages to their farm, i hope they do it with fear of God

I see some idiots calling war , blood spill , some even are calling the Ondo people slaves

Well, Yoruba race is not a race of idiots or slaves, we always prefer reasonable resolution and by God you will all be put to shame

Re: Ijare, Ondo Seizes 150 Cows For Destroying Farmlands by DaBullIT(m): 3:23pm On Jan 16, 2020
That's not real justice , that's emotional justice and more often than not it causes more damage

You can't completely get rid of anybody , you can only prevent them from destroying your farm land

You can't sell their cattles without their consent , that would amount to affront and probably fraudulent in the eyes of the law

Herdsmen are not the owners of the cows , most likely there are big men behind them, sometimes even yoruba people buy calf and give it to those herdsmen to rear , the contract is usually if the cow gives birth to two , fulani takes one as payment for all his services so most likely you are hurting another investor by selling off those cows illegally

i also need to point out that nobody will return to Ondo town armed to the teeth , never happened , and won't happen

so i advocate for sensible resolution, not emotional one

The Ijare community in the Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Wednesday, seized about 150 cows for destroying crops on farmlands in the area.

This came a few months after lightning struck dead 36 cows belonging to Fulani herdsmen while grazing on sacred land in the community.

It was gathered that the seized cows were led to the farmlands by some Fulani herdsmen to graze and destroyed crops planted on the farmlands.

A source in the community said when the farmers saw the havoc wreaked by the cows on their farms, they pursued them and seized the cows, while the herdsmen fled.

The source said, “When the herdsmen saw that the farmers and some local hunters were coming after them, they abandoned their cows and ran away and the cows were brought to the palace of the town’s monarch.

“The herdsmen have been adamant and it was high time they left. We didn’t harm them, but we were surprised that they ran away as if they were being chased by lions.”

One of the affected farmers, Mr Sunday Fasakin, who lamented that his efforts last year had come to nought, recounted how his three-hectare cocoyam and yam plantations were destroyed by the herdsmen and their cattle.

“They have been destroying our farms and we can no longer condone the losses. We don’t have problems with the herdsmen, but we don’t want them and their cows in Ijare anymore,” he stated.

Fasakin also called on the government to address the problem to avoid reprisal by the residents of the community.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Femi Joseph, said one of the herders had been arrested, while investigation had commenced into the matter.

“We got a report that five herdsmen invaded and destroyed farms in Ijare and we swung into action and one Banbuga Abu was arrested, while we are still searching for the other fleeing herdsmen. We have commenced an investigation into the incident,” Joseph stated.

Similarly, the traditional ruler of Ipinsa in the Akure South Local Government Area of the state, Oba Omoniyi Olufunmilayo, has raised the alarm over the invasion of farmlands and destruction of crops in his community by suspected herdsmen.

The monarch lamented that many farmers were counting their losses over the destruction of their farmlands allegedly by the herdsmen.

He called on the state government and security agents to intervene in the matter to avoid a clash between the farmers and the herdsmen.
