President Buhari And Service Chiefs In Closed-Door Meeting by solaugo1: 11:36am On Jan 30, 2020

Barely 24 hours after the National Assembly asked for the sack of the security chiefs, President Muhammadu Buhari is currently presiding over national security council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Among those in attendance are Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari;

Minister of Defense Maj. Gen. Bashir Salihi Mahashi (Rtd.); Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; and the National Security Adviser (NSA) Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (Rtd.).

Service chiefs in attendance include the Chief of Defense Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar; Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rafa’i Abubakar; and the Director-General of the Directorate of State Services (DSS) Yusuf Magaji Bichi.

The agenda of the meeting which started about10am was not disclosed, it was reliably gathered that the meeting may not be unconnected with the worsening security situation across the country.

Recall that President Buhari, while hosting eminent citizens of Niger State on Tuesday, had expressed frustration at the increasing security threats in the country.

President Buhari had said that what is happening now was far beyond just insurgency, which was the case in 2015 when he took office, but an evil plot against the peace of the country.

He said, “I was taken aback by what is happening in the North West and other parts of the country. During our campaigns, we knew about the Boko Haram. What is coming now is surprising. It is not ethnicity or religion, rather it is one evil plan against the country.

“We have to be harder on them. One of the responsibilities of government is to provide security. If we don’t secure the country, we will not be able to manage the economy properly. ”

"...Nobody can say that we haven’t done well in terms of security, we have done our best, but the way this situation is now, we can only pray,” the president said.

Security Chiefs yesterday after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari said only God can police the country’s border.....the country’s security chiefs blamed the porous border for the rising insecurity.

Perhaps it's now their own appointed time to flush themselves out of our national life.Bunch of nauseating failures.

Some of the service chiefs need to be relieved from their duties. Some of them have lived large with the insecurity in the country..

Not a single sponsor of Boko haram, Killer herdsmen have ever been arrested...

he is the best President so far. The one to clear all the buried problems that PDP insinuated into the Nigerian psyche. It got very bad BUT those problems will soon clear away. I think the some of the security agencies have corruption problems though.

This here is Gospel.

Buhari's problem is both Capacity and Mindset. That is why there is no hope with him as President.

By the way, NO person from the SouthEast and just one person from the South South as well as 2 persons from the South West, whilst the rest are from the "core" north, are members of the extended National Security Council.

Am a histroy student. Nigeria has never had it so bad in terms of Nepotism and exclusion of some groups. And it is at the core of the terrible things happening in Nigeria today.

And it is amazing that people of the far North and even the SW are not seeinv anything bad here. It is even worse that the elected officials of say the SE(Govs, Senators, Ministers etc) have done nothing on such lopsidedness.

I advice the president to be highly diplomatic in handling these regional security networks that are springing up rapidly.

This is really a testing time for his wisdom and leadership skills. The upper chamber seems to have taken side, south west have led the way already, south east, north central, and most likely south south will definitely join suits.

He must be careful enough not to fall for this game plans. He cant afford to lose the 4 regions so fast..

......I remembered Obasanjo's wisdom in handling sharia law of zamfara back then. In his words "sharia will die a natural death" and perhaps it did!
