DSTV EARLIER WARNED ABOUT THEIR UPGRADE.THAT CARDS NOT MARRIED TO THEIR DECODERS WILL BE BLOCKED AFTER THEIR UPGRADE.

i also remember a sat mate here on NL warning us all that when an sms appears on screen requesting for upgrade we should ignore it.
May be your frnd didnt heed to the advise.

My friend uses a Strong SRT4663X decoder with the 1.14p patch. The pictures were recently scrambled and DSTV indicated that they have upgraded to W4/W7 and that my friend should go and buy DSTV decoder, which I consider a marketing gimmick. Please could you confirm if patch SRT4661X_4664X_MyTV_158p_20101129.zip will have the W4/W7 satellite or at least restore signal?

It is a marketing gimmick, I have been using my strong with a DSTV card since last year, and non of my channels are scrambled.

i do have a problem with my Receiver SRT4663X, i did the upgrade on Firmware from 1.22 to 1.72,through RS232c but it is no longer turn on, when i power it on it just show - - - - on it's display then goes dark show no sign of life. help me on this please !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is your receiver original or FAKE? We have said it a million times that don't upgrade receivers for the sake of upgrading. Updating a fake receiver with original software will kill your receiver. First of all check the authenticity of your receiver. If it's original it's easy to resuscitate.

As stated above, what's the authenticity of your receiver? Is it original or fake? I find the process of resuscitating an original receiver easier, you do a PC to Receiver upgrade. But what about a dead receiver? If you are lucky, a receiver to receiver upgrade will wake it up using RS232 cable (crossed). If it's fake, make sure you use another fake receiver to revive the dead one.

63x is no longer compatible with mytv smart cards. Go get a 4940x if you want to recharge mytv channels.

Depends. Can still be used for channels other than mytv channels on same position. Also on Amos 5/W3c, some free mpeg 2 channels are receivable there also.
