Atiku Reacts To US Travel Ban Against Nigeria by socialmediaman: 1:40pm On Feb 01, 2020
Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate on the platform of the PDP in the last presidential election, posted a couple of tweets in reaction to the travel ban against Nigeria, expressing sadness and stating reasons why he believed the US should reconsider its decision against Nigeria

See tweets and responses below

I received with sadness the policy of the government of the United States of America to place Nigeria on its travel ban list.

While I understand the reasons given by the Trump administration (the failure of the Muhammadu Buhari led administration to share information and to address issues of terrorism), the ban does not take into account the pro-American sentiments of the Nigerian public and the solidarity previous Nigerian administrations have had with the United States.

I urge the government of President Donald Trump to consider the history of US-Nigerian relationships.

Nigeria was one of the few African nations that joined the US-led coalition during Operation Desert Storm between 1990-1991 when the United States championed the liberation of Kuwait.

The Trump administration may also consider the pivotal role Nigeria, in partnership with the US, played in bringing peace to Liberia, an American sphere of influence, that now enjoys democracy because Nigerian blood and money paved the way for peace in that nation.

Nigeria has also consistently voted in support of the United States and her allies at the UN and other multilateral world bodies. This is even as we are perhaps the biggest trading partner that the United States has in Africa, even where we had alternatives.

Nigerians love the United States and have been a major force for the positive development of that great nation: 77% of all Black doctors in the United States are Nigerians,” Atiku added.

Nigerians are also the most educated immigrant community in America bar none.

Surely, the US stands to benefit if it allows open borders with a country like Nigeria that is able to provide skilled, hardworking and dedicated personnel in a two-way traffic.

The current Nigerian administration may have its deficiencies and deep faults, but the Nigeria people ought not to be punished for their inefficiencies.

Once again, I call on President Donald Trump to consider adopting measures that individually target those in government who have failed in their duties, rather than target the entire Nigerian population.

Nigeria is practically grounded under his Government. The decay we are experiencing in Insecurity is happening and even much worse in other sectors. This ban is a clear example.
When our Embassy websites for US & China still has GEJ's pictures then you know that this Govt is just dead.

When you have a regime that swims in terrorism, sharia and human rights abuse, and tried to challenge America's authority as world police at one time, things like Visa ban is what you get. A regime that does not give a crap about the security of it's own people will certainly not be taken serious by the international community.
Nigeria (pariah state) today is a security risk to America thanks to buhari's directionless regime, hence the visa ban.
The only way to reverse the visa ban is for BUHARI TO RESIGN! Apart from terrorism, he has NOTHING to offer.

Buhari has failed Nigeria. History will bear witness to his absolute incompetence which has cost many Nigerians a better chance at life. I still wonder where Nigeria would have been if Atiku/Obi had won the last elections.
It is only fair that we closed our borders over transactions with other countries crumbling their economy and America closed their's to us completely too.
U.S of A is first, other countries will soon follow suit. Let me see where Jubril will go for treatment when he gets dehydrated.

Some kids here with their tiny brains praising trump for his racist decision to ban Nigerian immigrants.

Nigerians are one of the best educated immigrant groups. 17 percent of Nigerians in the US hold a master's degree while 4 percent have a doctorate. The corresponding numbers for white Americans are 8 percent and 1 percent.

Trump has made disparaging comments about African nations in the past, complaining that Nigerians who entered the United States on visas would never “go back to their huts.”. He is a racist white supremacist asshole whose entire domestic & foreign policy has been based on reversing everything the first black American president did.

Fifteen of the 19 '9/11' plane hijackers were citizens of Saudi Arabia, two were from the United Arab Emirates, one from Lebanon, and one from Egypt. None of their citizens has been placed on a travel ban list but Nigerians that have been a net positive to America gets put on a list. Madness!

Trump did the right thing. Here in Nigeria, some misguided fanatics burnt the US flag. So why wouldn't Trump place us on a travel ban?

They should travel to Iran instead tongue

We appeal to the United States Government to ONLY target Mohammedians, I mean anyone found to have supported this fraudulent regime of Mohomodu Buhari.

- ALL APC members and supporters including all their family members

- Any Nigerian in the United States who have at any point supported this bloody regime should be deported immediately without any parole.

- The US should start by checking their social media accounts and understand their political inclinations, & without delay deport them to the SHITHOLE.

Thank you Donald.
