He Was Deputy To The First President Of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta. He Took Over When Jomo Died In Office In 1978... He Clung To Power Till 2002 When He Handed Power To The Current President, Uhuru Kenyatta Who Is A Son Of Jomo Kenyatta.

One of the names we loved to hear during history subject class in the mid 60s to early 70s in primary school. Now, you cannot ask a primary or secondary school pupils names of leaders of other countries. What a shame.

Baba Moi showed us pepper after the failed coup during his reign.Kenya became a one party state.Roads, schools & other public institutions were named after Moi. He had divorced his wife 4 years prior to taking over power & the word out there is that the children who supported the mother ended up poor. A dictator such that people could be somewhere & if one painted Moi in a negative light, they’d disappear without a trace.Thank God when Kibaki took over power in 2000, he amended the constitution, so a president can only rule for 2 terms.

He had too many evils tied to his reign - economic stagnation,death of many institutions , death of parastatals ,deaths of prominent people ,tribalism ,endemic corruption ,he illegally stole a white farmer's land (Kabarak High school land) which he later "donated" , stole Mr Kanyotu's 50% share of Corner Hse Nairobi, illegally took another lady's Shs 4b land in downtown Eldoret ,detained Kenneth Matiba & Rubia ,brought one party dictatorship ...and so on.

ITS GOOD RIDDANCE to that old thug actually.May he pay for his many evils in hell.

LOL it is actually.People are trying sugarcoat his evil deeds but really, the man committed a lot of atrocities.Remember how he detained the late Mirugi Kariuki & Koigi Wamwere at the Nyayo torture chambers? Injected Matiba with mercury, ordered the killing of Robert Ouko & all the witnesses disappeared without a trace? Half of news would be all about Moi BS. Can we ever forget the Molo clashes that killed thousands & displaced thousands with much tribe being the victim? Terrible!

All I remember is the man died in a Hospital in Nairobi!!!!

Arap Moi was second president of Independent Kenya ( 1978 -2002) He took over from Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, incidentally father of current president. After Arap Moi was Mwai Kibaki and then Uhuru Kenyatta, current president. So Kenya has had just 4 presidents since independence in 1963.
