As the coronavirus spreads across China, the authorities there have appealed to other countries to help with supplies of protective face masks.

I was just facing my work today and noticed some of my colleagues were on calls. Calling various producers and wholesalers in major markets. Some even calling neighbouring countries to order for face masks.

They all want to export to China. There is currently panick buying there.

Sadly, it seems the news has gone round and all the major dealers are hoarding theirs or selling at exorbitant rates.

Since the beginning of February, the authorities have also removed tariffs and duties on imported medical supplies.

Meimei, from Shenzhen, who did not want her full name used, said she had been trying to order masks from the US through online shops such as Amazon to distribute to people across China, but supplies are running short there too.

This reminds me of the grandfather clock saga. Very soon Nigerians will sell all the nose mask in the country and we wouldn't even have any to use if the need arises.

Nwanneni come and see business. grin

You can make money while helping humanity.

In addition, it's the higher-quality masks which are most effective, and most needed.

One type, known as the N95 respirator, is designed to filter at least 95% of airborne particles, and is more effective than an ordinary surgical or medical mask, which also needs to be changed more frequently.

This is highly unpatriotic. We are all humans. We must save life before business. The face masks ought to be selling at reduced rates. cry cry

The face masks being sold in the open market are not protective of viruses which are really tiny particles.
Its only the fit tested masks which health workers use which can be said to protect from viruses
