Even with #OkadaKeke ban, most areas in Lagos are still in total traffic lockdown. My point is, LASG should have put in place an alternative for those affected by the ban... You can just wake up and put an end to the livelihood of ten of thousands of people... Regulation instead of total ban should have been adopted |

We now know the script behind the Okada ban. It has nothing to do with insecurity. It has absolutely nothing to do with the silly and irresponsible conspiracy theory about some fictitious Boko Haram planting their operatives in Lagos. Come to think of it, why would Boko disrupt Lagos? How would the break up of Nigeria benefit Buhari, the chief patron of Boko? Is Buhari not busy rehabilitating his killer kinsmen? So who told you Boko is a security risk to Nigeria? The script behind the Okada ban is the multi billion naira this transport sector is generating. The sector has remained virtually in the hands of the operators in the informal sector. The state is not making a dime from the multi billion generated monthly in this sector. The only department of the state making millions from this informal sector is that headed by the Agbero-general of the state- Dr MC Oluomo PhD. DSc (Agbero Escatology). One tech disruptor saw the vast opportunity and decided to move in. That was the arrival of Gokada. They moved in by paying a few millions to the state. They got all the required license to operate and business started. Even the disruptor could not believe their luck when the millions started rolling in. They were like “Yeeparipa, aiye mi temi bami. Na money dey flow like this?” Even the Okada drivers working for Gokada could not believe their luck. One lady who was in tears when the ban was introduced claimed she was making N20k a day. That’s N100k in 5 days. News of the billions they’re making started filtering into the corridors of power at Bourdillon. Sangodele, the Life-Governor of Lagos State and the Baba of all Lagosians, Oko iya won L’eko, summoned Pointius Pilate to an emergency meeting. According to sources at the meeting, he was like: “Pointius, Ode ni e. Ori e de ti daru. And if you continue like this, I will make sure I ambode you too.” He continued, “right now you, Pointius, are the greatest threat to my Presidential ambition. I heard one Gokada man, a Chinco, is making billions under your nose, in my state, and you’re just looking like lookman... ...how am I supposed to replenish my Bullion Van?” With a tone of finality, he said, “I want a big chunk of the billions to start rolling into my Alpha Beta conglomerate account.” Pointius was escorted out. Our source said he was farting in the car throughout the long journey back to Alausa. The rest as they say in Mandarin is history. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Not against the ban but I feel all policies both state and federal govt. Always target at making the poor poorer and the rich richer and not on human capacity building or capital development. infact everybody is at risk coz just last night at my area almost 30 boys entered the street collecting phones, handbags and other valuables..now will the police provide security at that point in time....its all going to fall back on us.... 1 Like |

A thief is a thief, a honest hard-working man will never turn to a thief, because the government banned okada...there have always been thieves in the society, the government needs to apply the death penalty when appropriate, to reduce the numbers of hardened criminals. 3 Likes 1 Share |

shehuolayinka: Fisayo shouldn't implant violence in the mind of people just as Henry shield shouldn't have said the comment he made on the abia school teacher. Saying such is like giving subtle accent to who ever has such notions. Rather we should be encouraging alternatives not inspiring vices 1 Like |

Goldencheese: I wonder why we have such a problem with walking. When I have visited London and Dubai, at times the distance between where I am staying and the nearest train station is a fair distance away and I would typically walk it. As a teen growing up in Ibadan in the 90's, I used to walk 2km+ to friends houses in Bodija to play ball and then we'd walk back again. Even now, sometimes for fitness purposes, I walk the entire length of inner marina from UBA head office to Nitel building and back. If it's such a problem, Nigerians should use the phone more to transact business or the internet. Ideally, in this modern day and age, we should be working from home more - all you need is internet and your computer. But Nigerian businesses will not allow - they must be looking at you to believe you are working, not realizing that work is an activity, not a location. While I do sympathize with some of the additional difficulty Lagosians are going through, all of this should just open our eyes to a few things: 1. Lagos is grossly overpopulated and this overpopulation is causing problems that are not easily solved 2. Lagos is extremely unplanned. If Lagos had been much better planned and Town Planning had been strict in enforcing laws and designs for like 20 years, we wouldn't be in this mess today. 3. Public mass transportation in Lagos is still grossly inadequate. Okada is not the solution - we need trains for longer distances and buses for smaller distances such as within yaba, within Surulere etc. Unfortunately the mass of personal cars in these areas caused by 1 & 2 above will not allow for free flow of traffic. But this is caused by us as well by converting residential to commercial. If govt wants to go hard and reconvert to residential, most of us will say no, yet that is also the major cause of our problems, so why are we complaining. Consider the following areas that were designed as residential, but have become commercial with roads that were designed for residential" Lekki - particularly Admiralty Victoria Island Surulere Yaba Ikoyi is also becoming more and more commercial Lagos is becoming or already is an unsolvable problem. With the high population density, poverty of its people and relatively low state budget (N1trl Lagos budget is just $2.7bln, meanwhile Texas 2019 budget was $250bln), there is not a whole lot that can be done to effectively solve the problem. So quite simply, the problem will only get worse!! 4 Likes |
