"The Senate President spoke with journalists in Benin City, the Edo State capital, shortly after paying a condolence visit to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, over the death of his wife, Clara"

Where is the press to ask all these questions everybody has been asking here?

CBN mints money. Its called currency management and its not cheap. It cost almost the same value to print lower dennimation notes like 10 and 20 naira, it cost a lot to print coins (thats why they are using polymer in 10, 20, and 50 bucks to increase longevity and reduce cost), they charter planes to fly currency around the country, provide armed escorts, buy and maintain bullet proof vans, hire consultants to conduct nation wide studies, hire auditors for bank examinations nation wide, cater to more than 24 branch offices with thousands of personel, building several currency centers in some state capitals, The list goes on. How can that compare with the national assembly? Remember CBN generates most if not all of its income. What of the national assembly? Mark cannot and should not give excuses. By way of note, most people are mixing up the headline with what mark said. No where in the article was mark quoted to have said cbn steals more than we do. It must be the journalist's idea to conjure up this headling. Just thought i should highlight that

Shame on David . . . how can he open his trap and utter such nonsense in public??

Let's even assume CBN is stealing . . . it doesn't lie in a thief's mouth to call another a thief . . . he ought to exert his energy on clearing his name before pointing the crooked finger at someone else . . .

David is saying "Well well, I steal but what about you"?? A public official?? The Senate President?? Darn, these folks ought to be hanged naked in an open market!

His speech reeks of unparalleled idiocy and is a clear pointer to the innate and ingrained corruption and filth deposited in our "leaders" . . .

What a shameless good-for-nothing rogue!

I doubt these people know how much they are stealing, they are simply not that good at anything, even calculating their loot.

Their incompetence is worse than their corruption.

I don't care if they make daimonds at the CBN. All govt agencies must give account, there is no reason for any other option.
Now we know the NASS members just seat and absorb 25% of recurrent expenditure, there is no reason not to find the truth about the CBN's position like some here are arguing.

Let us demand to know where every single kobo is going and why. cool

Compared to this numptys chomping down 25% for pp dat sit around doing nothing!! So daft! Can't even wrap my head around the stupid argument! *shhhioor*

Imagine our lawbreakers that are claiming to be lawmakers, they are nothing but public disgrace without any legacy. But remember, You might be above the law of our land but you are not above the hand of God and I have no doubt that, if you don't change your ways, soon now or later, God shall visit each and everyone of you, just the way He did to the bad eggs among the Israelites.
Nigeria as a country, would definitely get to the promise-land either you like it or not, but my question is, would you guys (Lawmakers) be there with us? Absolutely not for the bad ones among you. My own advice to you all is to continue what you know how to do best; either you like it or not the power would be taken away from you one day. I m sure, Babangida, Ibori & others, would have their regrets now and that is how you would have yours too when the time comes.

I agree with you well. Let CBN also make known there recurrent expenditure. It doesnt matter what they use the money for, let us know the percentage of then nations wealth they are using period!!!

150=25%
300=50%
450=75%
Simple mathematics!! grin grin grin

This is just to make another correction: the CBN has less than 30 offices all over Nigeria and it has no branch/office outside the shores of Nigeria. Whether CBN has 30 or 300 offices is not even the issue but for all government ministries, departments, and agencies to give full accountability of ALL their expenses.

That is the problem with Nigerian leaders, shallow minds. He did not see anything bad in collecting "armed robbers salary" for doing almost nothing, yet he was complaning that the MM airport was an embarrassment. This same David Mark, in 1988 could not see why students should complain for fuel price increase since they did not own cars, lol

I feel sad not only for David Mark but also for our news media and you lot here in Nairaland. You guys are all so uninformed and ignorant and that's why Nigeria suffers. CBN does not spend N300 billion as Mark alleged. Mark should resign for that statement. He just shows that he doesn't even understand the rudiments of economics and government and he shouldn't be presiding over an institution like national assembly. Overheard for CBN and overheard for NASS are 2 different things. for example, CBN can buy government bonds just to mop up the economy and check things like inflation. That doesn't mean they are spending the money on themselves or on projects. Its just economics. But then, the money is still recorded as expenditure against the CBN account. Its like using money to buy money. Its normal economics that government financial institutions all over the world do to regulate the economy. That is a major part of what makes up CBN expenditure. Apart from actual cost to run the organization. The NASS on the other hand spend this money on items like cars, hotel, furniture, etc. If mark does not know this, he doesn't no anything about governance. His comment is too ignorant for a senate president to make. It is a disgrace.
Re: "CBN Steals More Than We Do"---senate President by sshalom(m): 11:55pm On Dec 14, 2010
The statements credited to the Senate President show clearly that we are saddled with desperately myopic leaders who are hell bent on driving us down the hill. Pray me, what's the correlation between the National Assembly and the CBN? The way and manner the legislators have been going on about this issue reveal the decay in our politics.

It also shows that when the issue of money is involved, our leaders are quite united against their fellow citizens. I couldn't help but marvel as I watched Senator Mamora punching the air as he made his points on why the CBN Governor should be brought to their chamber to explain himself. How I wish the seriousness with which they are attacking the CBN Governor is directed at solving some of our problems. Nigeria, I hail thee!
