The concrete decking slab this morning.......

This decking cast has been completed. More pictures later.

Doing the final checks on this completed decking slab this morning. It rained heavily yesterday and the day before so nature is helping the curing process by providing a spray of water on the decking.

The next stage of this project will be the forming of the upper floor walls, we plan to start this by Monday next week. But before then we will be buying blocks in readiness for the start.

I think I read somewhere you spoke favourably about Niger pvc electrical piping for your decking slab (correct me if I am wrong), as someone with experience with it what can u advice about it qualities and is it true the 20mm of 45 pieces per bundle could cost up to ₦16000?

They sell for about N17,000 or more now, though they remain a top choice but I don't advice those with a lean purse to patronize them. There are other brands that are equally good quality out there in every market. Vee tek and GP also make plastic pipes. The cost of these alternatives are about N10,000 to N11, 000.

Forming the top floor this morning......

I will be appreciative if you can give me a breakdown of building a 4 bedroom duplex (1 large living room, dining and kitchen) with all rooms ensuite

plus a two bedroom ensuite upstairs and downstairs with attached one room bungalow at the back of the property.

It is a swampy land on 1 plot (60×120) so I was advised to do raft foundation (what's the cost?). Land has already been sand filled.

Location: Ogolonto, Ikorodu, Lagos.

A sample picture of my idea for the 2 bed and self contain is attached.

What is advantage of spreading nylon on the second slab When it wasn't on dpc? Secondly, is there any disadvantage when setting 3courses of block on linter bf the decking beam or bf the parapet beam?

Good morning,

On the first question, we didn't spread nylon on this DPC because we are not afraid of rising damp or capillary action. This is totally a dry land set on hard rocky surfaces, we use nylon only where we have reasons to believe the dampness coming from the land will be affecting the DPC and the lower walls of the house. We spread nylon on the decking slab because we wanted to retain moisture in the concrete slab for a longer time to aid the curing process.

There is no disadvantage in increasing the number of blocks on top of the lintels if it was planned for from the beginning. An extra line of blocks will obviously increase the dead load of the house and the planning should have made sure that the land that the building will sit on can bear the extra load. Thanks.

No, this is just an equipment used to vibrate concrete and get it to sink tightly, eliminating air pockets.

We will be commencing the next stage of this house which will be the scaffolding, parapet, roofing wood and roofing coverage of this house this week.

Buying and moving bamboos to this site, they will be used to make scaffolding around this house.
