The Nigerian government is corrupt. No doubt about it. But the speed at which data gets exhausted when using the 4G network is a cause for concern..

On the other hand, according to the 10th paragraph, Fashola said that the Telecom companies had been asked to purchase power directly from the generating companies and bypass the distribution companies. I don't understand actually. Is it that the generating companies generate stable energy but the transmission companies fail to distribute? Is Fashola saying that the distribution companies are the cause of unstable electricity? Is he saying that buying from generating companies will ensure stable supply to the masts? Someone should enlighten me.
Yes, it's exactly like you think, fact is that power is almost always available at the generating companies, but when the distributing companies buy power from them, they tend to ration the power in a way that will ensure they get maximum profit. It's all business for the discos.

Like I said the other day, a regulator must be an unbiased umpire juggling a fine line between the intrests of the customers and vendors towards a sustainable and prosperous industry going forward but we know that in feudal Nigeria the king is always right first, then the plantation owner is given his say so that the peons can comply.

Thank you for clarifying bro. So, in other words, Naija generates electricity, but does not distribute it properly?

Not all the 100% power that is generated is distributed because of lack of infrastructures by the distribution companies who complain to Government that they don't have the capability to acquire the infrastructures and the rate of power wastage by distribution companies it around 50% if not more than according to available data by the government

NCC has never behaved like a regulatory agency, rather it is always aiding the Telecom Companies to defraud Nigerians

Yes
Power is always generated except the generating plants have issues and that is always solved with urgency sef. The quantity generated just differs seasonally, more power is usually generated during the rainy season cos there's more water to drive the turbines, but it seems we suffer power outages in Nigeria mostly during that season because of our old and weak distribution systems, can you imagine that ordinary breeze disconnected our line in ma area two weeks ago, and it took the mofos three whole days to fix after several calls and pleas.
I personally think one of the major problems we have with power in Nigeria is our bad distribution system, the personels inclusive.

Nigeria generated over 5,000MW of electrify in 2017. That was the highest in the history of this country. And who was the minister of power then? Fashola.

All fashola said was full of ignorance.

If the Telecoms companies were to buy there own power do u know how many billions they would use to connect all there officies and facilities to it, plus secure it, plus loss from vandals? Telecom masts get vandalized u cant imagine what they will do to power masts owned by the telecoms. They will be buying up new cables everyday.

They asked a reasonable question, all the problems they listed ONLY HAPPEN IN NIGERIA.

The problems in this country aren't that much. Just that our leaders have a lackadaisical attitude towards it. Just like you said, it took three days of calls and begging to get the power company to fix a disconnected line. Lol

If you buy power from generating companies, you will go almost 5 years without power cut, unless there is a total collapse of the national grid, which is often restored in less than an hour...

Once this Mallams get to run an agency they ruin it.This is the agency (NCC) they have not headed till Buhari won and one of the first appointment he made. Danmbatta was a junk lecturer in BUK,my friend told me how they used to mock him behind for being so obsolete in teaching and research methods.

Personally, there is no need to regulate the activities of these telecom.. The Vat they added is on us, the excessive taxation is on us, if we can't even stay in our house to charge phone and use our data, how can they be buying diesel and run morning to night and still do maintenance without having technical fault.. Nigerian govt. are the clueless.

So, was this what the Telcos told NNC and NCC responded by saying, "Don't worry about it then. It is not your fault. If the Senate calls us to explain, we will tell them it is the Ministry of Work's fault. So, take your customers' money and damn the consequences"?
We have a very big problem in this country when it comes to consumer protection.
Sorry but the NCC is right. Most telcos in Nigeria have an O&M team for fibre which is rarely seen in other countries. This is due to incessant fibre cuts by road constructions. All that Fashola is saying is not reality. Just imagine the cost of connecting about 60k base stations to a genco. Does he not realise that the infrastructure for stepping down power lies with discos or does he expect telcos to procure step down transformers and transmission lines by themselves? The fact is Nigeria has planning and infrastructure problems and govt needs to be up and doing to address them.

How do you connect the over 60k base stations to gencos who are stationed in particular places? Who pays for the step down?

No individuals or companies cannot buy directly unless you are given exemption...
If you get exemption and you have the financial capacity you can get the light directly... The company I worked connected directly, we had to lay an armoured cable for over 30kilometer from the nearest power station, it was like telecoms laying cables...

Lucky you to be 30km from a genco. Do you realize some Base stations are over 100km from gencos?

The answer is capital YES, DISCO lacks the capacity to distribute the power to generated by GENCO, hence the epileptic supply been experienced over the years.
