At no point did he mention that every graduate will be employed. He said graduates will be screened and employed based on their suitability.

What most pple dont know is that alot of Nigerian graduates are not employable.

As noble as it sounds, employment is always based on availability not only ability.

Kindly read the article again.
At no point did he say all graduates will be employed. He said there would be screening and suitable candidates will be selected.

It might interest you to know that alot of Nigerian graduates are not employable..

seborrhic:

When someone doesn't know how employment comes about. When someone doesn't know why goverment, even in core socialist countries cannot employ every graduate.
When someone doesn't know that goverment employment of all graduates, certainly impossible, but even if hypothetically possible, will stifle creativity, productiveness and innovation, then that person is a dimwit.
The most advanced countries in the world cannot employ all graduates.
The most advanced communist country, China, cannot.
So what is the dimwit proposing, rubbish!
It's like a country printing currency during inflation so that everyone can have money to spend;the height of foolishness that even primary school people now know.
Are u supporting the dimwit's proposal?

Alot of graduates today dont even earn up to 30k.
They could take this first job as a gateway to the labour market proper.

Be positive.

Yeah and then 3 years down the line, you'll notice that the Government had no better plan. that the 30k was their only plan all along.

It's hard enough getting a job when you're not working. Then imagine how it'd be when you're trying to get a job but then the Government tells you that you already have one.

As you are aware, the Federal and state governments have a lot of ministries, agencies and so on.

I see no reason why this cannot be done once a year to accomodate graudates who "qualify".

Be optimistic man...

The Govt cannot d everything for u man. If after 3yrs of experience in the labour market you cannot makr the next move yourself then it is your problem.

The hardest part of getting a job in Nigeria is when you are fresh out of school. As you gain experience it becomes easier to find another job and this is based on personal experience.

You kept repeating this despite that people are Ignoring

For your Information, I read the whole article. Just ask yourself who would not be interested in joining the military/paramilitary with their new juicy pay. Before you say those that are qualified coz I think that's all you have to say.

When there is certainty that you will get the job after graduation, you would realize that there are so many graduates in this same country that are very sound and are even over qualify and are even interested even those that never dreamt of joining any force. In addition to that, with the number of graduates NYSC is rolling out every year, we will all see a force tripling it's population under 10years.

Mind you a government that could not generalize a minimum wage of 30k across all grade level (only a consequential adjustment from GL. 07) does not have the facility to absorb that large population. If you think they do, let me hear in factual terms

Lol. These people aren't doing this to help anyone out. They just want it to seem like they have reduced the level of unemployment in the country when in fact they're just offering a temporary solution to the problem.

If they're going to pass a bill like this, they should make sure it's something that is sustainable.

Every government Agency have the capacity to absolve at least 150,000 - 200,000 graduates yearly. Make some of them full time revenue generating agency to generate money for government to pay salaries. Then introduce contributory pension scheme to corps members and govt contributes 30k to it so at d end of service year they find money to start businesses.

From my experience as a recruiter, a lot of Nigerian graduates are unemployable. Our educational system is sh***t. The moment he proposed this for qualified graduants I 100% agree it is possible.

At the state and federal lvl there are a lot of ministries and parastatals that can absorb qualified employable graduates yearly.

The idea is very viable...

I don't do optimism.

I do reality.

It is unsustainable.

We need the private sector creating jobs.

Constantly dumping our handicaps and inability on government would get us nowhere.

We must as private citizens begin to think of how to create.

Create products and services.

All the clothes we wear is foreign-made, save for the few native attires we wear on Sundays.

A country of 180 million people that likes to pose, that has a large number unemployed should be blazing the fashion trail.

We must find a way and stop depending on government.

Let's not even talk about other sectors that we can all find opportunities.

Abroad; six months before graduation, there is employment funfairs which qualifies for an interview in an organization.
That way the rate of unemployment is brought low after graduation.
I believe this is a good idea, except when nepotism and favoritism starts to be practised.

Even if that is the case, that's because companies need them. Do you think they employ in UK and USA for no reason!?

Well, I'm a civil servant. Without doubt, I know far more than you about government establishments and their corresponding realistic capacity.

My conclusion is that you would know more about private organization than I do, but on this, you aren't close.

Those you think are unemployable for private organizations (Since they want the best of the best to shoot their profit) are working in the public system. While most are doing well after a lot of experience, others are just doing it anyhow it goes. What am I saying, that Ideology might not hold water in the public system.

So in the public service, almost everybody can survive. Before you know it 99% percent will show interest, then nepotism plays

It's simple logic!!!

If government can live extravagantly on 2mbpd crude oil

They can make electricity stable, build Good roads, provide basic social amenities!!!

There are some countries without crude oil and they are not over taxing their citizens and they are doing well!!!

Their leaders are not greedy, they ensure their citizens see what they are paying for via tax

And we have the population

So what is this much Ado about crude oil afterall Buhari has been shouting diversification undecided

So what's the problem
True assuming proper mechanized farrmig is practiced by the Govt this bill can work in this agency and it's should be for those who are interested I think it can work well in agricultural ministry since it involves production ,planting ,storage and exporting .

Eta Mbora, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member of the house of representatives, has introduced a bill seeking to provide automatic employment for graduates after their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

The legislation seeks to amend the NYSC act to enable the military, paramilitary agencies and other special services recruit willing graduates immediately after they have completed the one-year youth service.

The amendment bill scaled first reading at the green chamber on Thursday.

The NYSC act, as it currently is, does not provide any employment window for youth corps members after the programme.

In an interview with TheCable on Friday, the lawmaker, who represents Calabar Munincipal/Odukpani federal constituency of Cross River state, said the bill will help address Nigeria’s unemployment problem.

He said if passed into law, it would help graduates desirous of joining the military, paramilitary agencies or special services to do so after they have completed their NYSC programme, provided they meet the agencies’ requirements.

“At the conclusion of their service year, there should be a process where the agencies will examine those interested to determine their qualifications to be employed,” he said.

“They should be able to now enrol them after the completion of service; that is for those qualified. That way, it can address the unemployment problem and job scams in Nigeria.

“Those willing to join the military and paramilitary agencies and other special services should be able to do so since they have served their country.”

Mbora added that the bill seeks to officially increase the allowance of corps members to cater to their needs.

He said although the federal government recently increased the allowance, the action is not backed by the law and will only be legal with the amendment.

Despite being Africa’s biggest economy, Nigeria’s unemployment rate is very high. It rose to 23.1 percent at the third quarter of 2018.
