Action Needed
US, UK, Switzerland & Others with possession of money looted by Nigerian politicians and military officers.

Request
Do not return the loot to Nigeria. It will be re-looted or wasted.

Invest the loot in your respective countries as a scholarship fund and attract bright specially talented school children in Nigeria into your universities as beneficiaries of the fund. Target students from SS1 to first degree graduates.

The politicians use our looted funds to educate their children abroad.

We need US and Europeans to intervene in the best practical manner by retaining the loot and converting it to education endowment. We have many bright scholars from poor background and they struggle just to complete education here in their country. In Nairaland here we witness many times students crying for help to pay school.

Foreign countries can help, give exceptionally gifted children a bright future in an enabling environment abroad.

Mods please put this thread in front page and stick it up.

Lol. I guess this your suggestion is a temporary one to avoid re-looting by the present politicians. What's your long term solution to it? Division of the contraption will go a long way to solving the problem.

I do not want to create distraction from the topic. Suggestions for a solution will need a new thread, but Im sure several of those exist in Nairaland already.

We did not know in public that such backdoor deals go on. Our politicians steal national treasury and hide it away abroad. When they want it back they strike deal with governments abroad to return the money to the thieves that stole it...or to their survivors. Little wonder Mohammed Abacha had the gut recently to demand that a loot hidden in US must be returned to him.

Bureau de Change should be scrapped. It is one of the biggest enemy of the nation when it comes to laundering looted money.

It is mind boggling that our government negotiate with criminals and beg them to return stolen money in return for leniency.

We cannot just blame Nigerian Government, foreign governments are key players. They are in possession of the money, it is not a trust....it is crime money, ill-gotten.

Instead of enabling our governments to destroy lives these foreign governments should walk the talk and engage directly in helping Africans develop their continent as they always claim in press statements. This can happen in many ways, one of those ways is what this thread suggests, all stolen money hidden in their territories should go into a education endowment to better lives of those who are victims of Nigerian political and military office holders.

In particular, very bright and gifted students should be awarded scholarship out of the endowment to study abroad.

In addition, the diversity visa should be returned for Nigerians and target students from 10yr old to 25yr old age bracket. This is separate from the magnet program in above paragraph.

The two categories, magnet program and visa diversity for scholars will go a long way in helping our youths develop. The money in the endowment belongs to them, not Bagudu and his class of thieves, past or in future.

Another option will be to have the countries where the loot is stored award contracts to their companies to come build the roads or hospitals in Nigeria. Same kind of model the Chinese use when they give loans, you have to use their companies to execute the contract.

Buhari and his gang of bandits will loot all the proceeds the seconds it lands the country.

Graduate studies and Post-Graduate can usually get grants, research assistant and fellowship that give them access to funds and sponsorship abroad....unlike undergraduates and below that must depend on family means.

Its a good point nonetheless.

Great thread!

I agree with the spirit of their intentions.

Although, i disagree, with such an action plan.

Instead they should keep it in a trust fund until the current political class have been phased away.

These trust funds ought to publish the amounts available to all Nigerians.

The foreign governments are no diffrent to the greedy punks and rougues in the current democratic system.

Its Democracy that is a failure.

Interesting, that is a good point.

However, such can only be advantageous to the general public once the current political system is fixed.

Democracy is a failed experiment.

There are no current forms of democracy that is able to prevent a hugh gulf between the super rich and everyone else.

In order for our political systems to be fit for our purpose, we ought modify our current form of democracysic, bin democracy and seek other systems of government, or make the best choice of creating our own political systems based on our local, national and continental values.

Therefore, as bright and positive as your plan is, it has the current system of government to navigate.

For me, any such funds ought to be published and then sent to CB and they should issue the funds to all citizens of such country in the way that is best served.

Starting a petition on change.org and calling for signatories from Nigerians at home and abroad is better way to achieve this
