Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Saturday told people who beg for money from individuals to channel their demand to the government.

NAN reports that he spoke in Dutse at the National Conference on Alarammomi (Qur’anic Teachers) organised by the Centre for Qur’anic Reciters in Nigeria.

Sanusi urged parents to stop sending their children to Almajiri schools but that if they would do that, they must send give the kids the necessary provisions.

The monarch insisted that parents were partly responsible for the menace of children begging for food and alms.

Sanusi, while quoting verses from the Holy Qur’an and Hadith, said whoever begs, would resurrect on the day of judgement without flesh on his face.

“Begging is disallowed in Islam and if you must beg for alms, beg the government not individuals or relatives”, he said

He added that “It is better for you to cut firewood and sell to earn a living than to beg.

“Those who beg or seek assistance from individuals will be resurrected on the day of judgement without meat/flesh on their faces.

“And if you must beg, then beg the government not individuals or relatives. This is because they should be responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of citizens.

“Individuals, relatives or neighbours can assist you as gestures of kindness and generosity, but that’s not necessary.

“So, those who are saying that begging is not prohibited in Islam are just misleading you”.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, corroborated the Emir.
“We must change the system in order to ensure brighter future for our children,” he appealed.

I wish Sanusi had contested and won the presidential election in 2015 instead of buharia.

Man is so enlightened and exposed, and never afraid to drop his illuminating ideas on Northern issues even as they may antagonize the conservative nature of Northern Nigeria.

Case in hand is how he openly opposes the almajiri system in Northern Nigeria, which breeds millions of child beggars and out-of-school children.

Lemme interpret this side jab;

Sanusi; "In other words, if you must beg for food or alms, beg the dollar loving corrupt Ganduje, this is because, he's responsible for the welfare and well-being of all beggers in Kano".

An indirect message to you Ganduje.

The same people you tell to demand from the govt are same that would carry placard for the govt against the individuals, and then beg the individual for alms to survive..

Just a warped system...

This guy started using crystal meth or his attention deficit disorder is becoming aggressive. There are beggers everywhere around the world, Nigeria av the highest poverty rate due to corruption. Especially in the North cus most of the time associated to factors such as illiteracy, people's attitude to economic prosperity, corruption, bad governance, child destitution (like almajiranci, begging), income inequality, ethnic clashes and poor economic roadmap. However, all of those factors are, inherently, the resultant repercussions of poor entrepreneurial initiative at community/society level. That is why, even though no region or nation has ever experienced zero level of entrepreneurship, more entrepreneurially characterised nations/regions are socioeconomically better, and poverty and other related factors seem to be low. Therefore, lack of sound entrepreneurial initiative is the main cause of poverty in northern Nigeria.

People like this with sense and exposure will never be allowed to rule Nigeria. Our best minds are not given a chance yet we expect the clueless people up there to perform magic

Sometimes I don't waste my energy complaining about incompetence with regards to how our leaders govern us. They cannot give what they don't have.

A country of ~200million people, not governed by her brightest minds...What do you expect A miracle??

How do you mean by his many sins against Jonathan?

Who said it is a sin to blow a whistle against massive corruption in an administration in which he is the central bank Governor?

They are all the same. When APC used court to rig IMO election JUSTICE PREVAILED. When the same court backfired elsewhere, you know the story.

The main problem isn't really individuals but the system.

In Nigeria, once you get power, nothing can touch you for the next four years. Video proof of bribes, documents, instability, gross incomoetence, abuse of power, even murder... Nothing.

If our country has a good enough system, People who are not CURRENTLY power drunk would keep the government on their toes. Why? Cos they'll be afraid of losing their position, or even being sent to jail.

The government's only fear is hiding their money where the next government can't reach.

That's our real problem.
