Why is it so hard for you to publish per capita stats? Is it because your government doesn't publish it's crime stats? The United States is 5 per 100k. Nigeria had murder rate of 9.85 in 2015 according UN stats. Lol did nigeria some how drop by half with 5 years. Even that's an under estimation.

Data on homicides, in particular, in Africa is patchy and diverging. In Nigeria official statistics are hard to come by. In 2004 the World Health Organization reported the homicide rate in Nigeria at 5.4 per 100.000 inhabitants. Data provided by the Nigeria Police Force indicate that there were 2,712 and 2,861 homicides in 2012 and 2013, respectively. However, according to the Federal Ministry of Justice, these data are incomplete since not all States appear to maintain statistics or report on them on a regular and reliable basis. A report published recently by the National Bureau of Statistics put the number of "murders" in 2017 at 3,219. An alternative source is provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) who estimated in 2014 17,059 victims of homicide. In 2017, the National Bureau of Statistics published prison statistics indicating that from 2013 to 2016 an average of 8,264 per year, were imprisoned for allegedly committing homicide.

To find out more about homicides in Nigeria, UNODC, in partnership with the National Bureau of Statistics of Nigeria, in 2016 conducted a survey covering more than 33,000 households across all 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. The results of the survey provide strong evidence that the level of lethal violence in Nigeria could be significantly higher than reported to the authorities or estimated based on public health data. On the basis of the survey sample, the annual homicide rate of Nigeria in the period 2013-2016 was estimated at 34 per 100,000 population, corresponding to around 64,000 victims of intentional homicide annually with significant variations across the six geopolitical zones. The total homicide rate was estimated to be the highest in the North-East: 79 per 100,000 population and North-Central: 65 per 100.000. With an estimated 4.4 victims of homicide per 100.000 inhabitants, the homicide rate was the lowest in the South-West.

Op, you seem to be thinking like APC supporters who keep justifying senseless killing simply because it happened in a previous administration or because it's happening in other countries.
Why are you not comparing successes of USA in science and technology with what obtains in Nigeria?
You would rather compare killings and other wicked acts.
Well, that only shows how wicked you people are.

Why would anyone wish to visit Nigeria if all they hear from Nigerians like you is how supposedly ''dangerous'' and ''insecure'' the whole country is?

Americans highlight their best in every situation. Ever wondered why CNN doesn't report all those killings in the USA?

It is so that tourists and investors would flood their country and improve US lives, despite their internal problems as a country.

Sometimes you don’t even have to be an American to know someone that’s been shot in America. A much loved relation of mine was shot dead two weeks – two frigging weeks – after setting foot on America's cold, cement grounds. Very disreputable place masquerading as god’s gift to the idea of nationhood.

ContractKiller:
Firstly, the United States is a much bigger country than Nigeria with a population of 325 million compared to Nigeria's 200 million. So it is only expected that more crimes will be committed there.

Secondly, about 95% of crimes in Nigeria are not reported and when they are, they don't always end up in court. I worked with a Child's Right NGO in Lagos for about 3 years and while I was there, I can tell you that at least 8 out of every 10 perpetrators of child rape whom we reported to the police, ended up walking out of prison within just one week of being arrested because their families had "settled" the family of the victims and also settled the police. In fact the police will even get a bigger settlement than the victims family.

Thirdly, the Nigerian police is hands down possibly the worst and most incompetent law enforcement body in the world. Its men and women are poorly trained, poorly equipped and poorly motivated. The Nigerian police itself actually runs like a criminal organisation. They run several extortion rackets all over the country where they force motorists to part with money at gunpoint. That means when you're counting criminals in this country, you have to include the Nigerian police if you're being honest.

There's just no comparison between the United States and Nigeria. One is a well organized country, while the other is a joke pretending to be a country.
And those American police are perfect there don't extort, there are well motivated everything is perfect in America.

And so f*cking what? Is America an example of safety? America is attractive for other reasons , for which people are willing to trade their relative safety. Again... At least there is no feeling of being outgunned by terrorists like Boko Haram is doing to the pathetic Nigerian army.

Playing the ostrich doesn't help you or Nigeria.

Nigeria is a shithole....for now.

Approximately 17,000 Americans are shot dead annually in the USA by fellow Americans.

This is direct from the FBI:

''In 2018, the estimated number of murders in the nation was 16,214. This was a 6.2 percent decrease from the 2017 estimate, a 14.5 percent increase from the 2014 figure, and a 5.3 percent increase from the number in 2009.''

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018/topic-pages/murder

When we say that you Nigerian youths are the dumbest, most uninformed, ignorant, self-loathing group of people on earth, you wonder why.

Nigeria is far safer than the USA, but the way you imbeci.les go online rubbishing Nigeria daily, and making out that she is the most dangerous and worst place on earth, talking every day about ''insecurity'' because you stupidly think everywhere outside Nigeria is paradise on earth. Is that not how you guys end up in slavery in Libya?

Today the whole world is scared of visiting Nigeria because of you people.

People think they will be killed by Boko Haram or 'Fulani herdsmen' the minute they step foot in Nigeria, courtesy of you SCUMBAGS that go around smearing this country.

Mumu people. Keep hating your country, you hear? Shebi Trump has banned you. Tomorrow may others follow suit. So that finally you will start to focus on investing in your own society, instead of hating it.

Americans suffer 10 times more ''insecurity'' than Nigerians, but how often do you see Americans blaming Trump, or condemning their nation online as a ''shiithole'', or ''zoo'', or ''failed state'', and all these hateful adjectives you imbecil.es use to describe Nigeria?

Idiots drowning in inferiority complex and self hate..

Oh and guess what. You think that US murder rate is high?

Wait till you see the annual death rate from drug ovedose:

''More than 70,200 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2017, including illicit drugs and prescription opioids—a 2-fold increase in a decade''

https://www.drugabuse.gov/related-topics/trends-statistics/overdose-death-rates

Those deaths could be ended tomorrow if the US govt was not run by corrupt people benefitting hugely from the drug trade. Those drugs pass through US borders! Bribery and corruption by US officials and senior politicians allows this to fester unchecked.

Is any of this comparable to the few hundred people killed by herdsmen and BH per year? Nope.

But foreigners believe Nigeria is 100 times more dangerous than the USA because of what NIGERIANS post about their own country online daily.

USELESS SET OF PEOPLE. YOU'RE YOUR OWN WORST ENEMIES.
Mr Einstein, there is one titbit ( come to think of it, lots of information )that you forgot, or deliberately sidestepped in your silly misinformation campaign .
First, you ommited the murder rate or homicide statistics for Nigeria. Now how can you make a comparison without first stating the disparity in numbers between the two countries that you are comparing ?
And here you are calling Nigerians ignorant and imbeciles for speaking out against the state of insecurity in Nigeria. I can't see anything more imbecilic than a dishonest person who attempts to use lopsided facts to peddle falsehoods.

Now more to the point.
What exactly does safety mean to an average citizen of any country ?
Safety means to be able to live and walk freely at anytime of the day without the fear of being robbed, harmed, kidnapped or killed.
Statically, the FAR MAJORITY of gun violence in the US are gang related, involving young black and Latino men between the ages of 17 and 34 in urban ghettos . Outside of those demographics, the average American is almost guaranteed a safe life uninterrupted by violence. With the police, the fire department, the FBI and ATF just a phone call away, the average American is safe..not as safe as say, the average European, but nevertheless, safe.

Nigeria, on the other hand, violence and insecurity is dispersed almost evenly, with no or very very inadequate law enforcement and security infrastructure.

In Nigeria, robbers or bandits can hold up any area for hours. Communities can face a 24hr siege by bandits with no law enforcement agencies to help. That is the definition of insecurity.
