BY PATRICK MGBODO Worried by the criminal activities of herdsmen and the mounting security challenges in the state, the monarch of Uvwie kingdom, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Sideso Abe 1, has called for measures to control the influx of suspected gun wielding persons into Delta State. The monarch, who made the call, yesterday, when he received the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural and Community Development, Rt. Hon Emmanuel Okoro, during a courtesy call, stressed that those who enter the state with predatory intentions would be resisted. While commending Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his developmental strides in the state, HRM Abe called on representatives of ethnic nationalities in the state to work as a team and support the Stronger Delta Vision of the Governor. ‘’Do not fold your arms; watch out because the influx of people into Delta State is alarming herdsmen are killing our people and raping our women. We want people to come and invest- people who will come and pursue honest means of livelihood but if they come to destroy our state, they will be resisted’’ the monarch said. Earlier in his remarks, Hon Okoro said that the essence of the visit to the king was part of activities to interface with community leaders and Presidents-General (PGs)in Delta Central Senatorial District, even as he emphasized on the importance of the office on rural and community development as established by the Governor. According to him, the visit, which followed the meeting with PGs in Delta North Senatorial District in Asaba, was based on the need to feel the pulse of the grassroots and get their feedback for the state government to act upon for the development of the state. ‘’As a man of the grassroots, Governor Okowa decided to establish the Office of Rural and Community Development and has charged us to interface with community Presidents-General and leaders of ethnic nationalities in the state to feel the pulse of the people,’’ said Okoro |
