It will be recalled that the last time this happened was when Mecca was invaded and the black stone desecrated and stolen by a warlord called Bin Hassan Al Qurmuti in the year 930 A.D.

During Al Qurmuti's invasion, he used the kaaba, which is kissed by millions of Muslims, as a toilet and urinal.

In the year 930 A,D. Al Qurmurti also known to history as Abu Taher Bin Hassan , led 700 Horsemen into Mecca, massacred the pilgrims, uncovered the kaaba, and urinated on it, took the black stone and went over the top of the kaaba and said:

‘I am in God and God is in Me. Where is your God? I am your great God. Where are the birds of God (Tayr al ababeel) that protect the kaaba? where are the stones of fire (Hijara min sejeel)?’

The bodies of the pilgrims were left to rot in the streets or thrown down the Well of Zamzam. Their victims numbered around some thirty thousand. The Kaaba was looted, with Abū-Tāhir taking personal possession of the Black Stone and bringing it back to Al-Hasa.

How were Al Qurmuti and his 700 horsemen able to slay over thirty thousand people? Because the pilgrims were convinced (and prayed instead of defending themselves) that Allah would intervene. Allah had promised to protect the kaaba in the quran, Sura 105:1-5

Have you not seen what your lord did with the companions of the fīl? Did he not make their schemes to go astray? And he sent birds in ababil on them. They cast rocks made of baked clay on them, so he made them as devoured straw.

As seen from the above Quranic chapter, Allah had promised to send birds to drop stones on anyone who attacks the Kaaba, but strangely enough, nothing happened to Al Qurmuti during his desecration of Mecca. There were no angry birds from Allah dropping stones on Al Qurmuti and his warriors as they went about urinating and defecating on the Black Stone of the Kaabah which is Allah’s holy stone.

1. Worship at times of hardship and tribulation has a special flavour and a special reward.
It was narrated from Ma’qil ibn Yasar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Worshipping at times of tribulation and confusion is like migrating to join me.” Narrated by Muslim, 2948.

2. Disasters and calamities are a test of the believer’s patience. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, ‘When (will come) the Help of Allah?’ Yes! Certainly, the Help of Allah is near!”
[al-Baqarah 2:214]

3. Calamities are a means of expiation of sin and raising one's status. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There is nothing that befalls a believer, not even a thorn that pricks him, but Allah will record one good deed for him and will remove one bad deed from him.”
Narrated by Muslim.

It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Trials will continue to befall the believing man and woman, with regard to themselves, their children and their wealth, until they meet Allah with no sin on them.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2399; classed as saheeh (authentic) by al-Albani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 2280.

And it was narrated that Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “On the Day of Resurrection, when people who had suffered affliction are given their reward, those who were healthy will wish their skins had been cut to pieces with scissors when they were in the world.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2402. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, no. 2206.
