In as much as I am against the removal of Lamido Sanusi as Emir, I want to insist that Pres. Buhari was NOT bound by the constitution to intervene in local chieftaincy affairs. Make no mistakes, he could have intervened using his office if the dethronement had grave security implications. He could have also intervened utilizing his political and relational influence if any SPECIAL interests existed. That he did not intervene, means he regarded the event as usual happenings that would enrich the history book.

Having been dethroned, Sanusi knew that universal convention demanded that he should leave town to allow the new Emir a period of consolidation. However, ABDUCTING him away from his family and taking him to Nasarawa State against his will goes as the constitution and the rule of law.

Therefore, I had expected that the Attorney General Malami by now would have officially written Gov. Ganduje on the illegality of Sanusi's banishment given the subsisting Appeal Court ruling involving Jokolo case. This is where the Presidency should intervene ON TIME rather than passively allow another round of unnecessary international campaign by Amnesty International and co. to once again dent Nigeria image internationally. National Intelligence Agency (NIA) should know this and offer timely guidance.
