CORONA VIRUS: THE DISEASE THAT HAS GIVEN THE FOOTBALL WORLD A STAND STILL

Football as a sport has had its ups and downs since the early 1900’s. Being the most popular sport and having over 8 billion fans. Football has become a major force in society as it is a source of livelihood for millions around the globe through direct and indirect means. Fans get a return for their money through goal euphorias during match days mostly held on weekends and when it comes to national side, the story line is not far away from that of the club sides as the support is overwhelming and patriotic.

Weekends are considered to be wonderful only when there are mouthwatering games to play and season breaks are treated with a bizarre sound of dissatisfaction and pain. While in history till date there have been moments of interruption in football due to extreme circumstances like war, famine and insecurity. Football has managed to remain in the limelight without losing its flavor and savor as the greatest game on the planet.
Footballing bodies like CAF and FIFA have been rocked with scandals yet football did not go still in any way.
Epidemics like Ebola, SARS have broken out yet the fans were able to gather and chant victory songs and dance to samba beats in stadiums packed with 80,000 fans,

When News broke weeks back of the Corona virus many never imagined that it will have such a big hit on the world such that flights will be called off and business meetings rearranged. The growing fears have worsened as the virus has rampaged big name countries like China, UK, USA and Italy. For Sports it has been a largish hinderance to its enjoyment as games are being called off and matches played behind closed doors. 

What is Corona Virus?
COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It’s caused by a virus called coronavirus.

What’s the risk of coronavirus in the UK?
The UK Chief Medical Officers have raised the risk to the public from low to moderate.
Health professionals are working to contact anyone who has been in close contact with people who have coronavirus.

What’s the risk of coronavirus for travellers?
There are some countries and areas where there’s a higher chance of coming into contact with someone with coronavirus.
Symptoms of coronavirus
The symptoms of coronavirus are:
• a cough
• a high temperature
• shortness of breath
But these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.
