RichyBlacK:

I wish the Ikemba well.

Only the profoundly ignorant Igbo son or daughter will not appreciate the courage and leadership of the Ikemba during the prewar pogrom of Ndi-Igbo. True, many Igbos lost their lives, however, that war made something clear: Igbos have the will and capacity to fight, if pushed. The result is that we may be accused of anything else in this world, but not of cowardice or the paralysis induced by the fear of death.

We died cry, but we live on! grin

May God bless Ndi-Igbo!

May your days be long and very fruitful.

Look at them: Hypocrites!

"May your days be fruitful", "May your days be long", they say!

Meanwhile, they justify why their Kin mindlessly and violently Killed every other person in Jan.'66, but still refuse to understand why Hausas retaliated in July'66!

Deceive yourselves all u want; We know yall get tha message loud and clear!

Beasts!

Maybe if some Igbo soldiers didnt mindlessly kill other regions politicians and free theirs there wont have been a case of a pogrom not to talk of civil war to start with.

Well, a lot would have stopped it:

1. The Yorubas constituted some of the best military strategists in the Nigerian military as evidenced by their superior performance during the Biafran War. I don't have the list, but I want to wager that a sizable proportion of the Sandhurst-trained officers were Igbos and Yorubas. (Please furnish the list if you have it).

2. The North would have factored the risk of losing a potential ally in their preparations to fight the Igbos.

3. The same numerical argument works in the reverse: Northern strategists would have shuddered at the prospect of a forced alliance of Igbos and Yorubas driven by the massacre of Yoruba officers and the likely consequences.

4. Murdering Yoruba officers would arguably have been military suicide for the North.

I believe the above points are obvious and would readily have deterred any excesses by Northern aggressors against Yoruba officers since it was certain that Igbos would never support the North in their agenda. The prospect of the North fighting on two fronts would have dampened their appetite for "more blood-shed"

I can't really disagree with the points above except No 3. On that fateful day in July 1966, the Northerners were not thinking, they were acting. It is difficult to see how far they would have gone. For instance, the coup started at Abeokuta and by Northern NCOs. Murtala, Martins Adamu, and Danjuma had been planning this coup before the action of the NCOs forced their hands. Heck, they killed Fajuyi who was one of the most progressive southern officers at that time. My guess is that they would have eliminated the Yoruba officers as well without thinking of the consequences. Afterall, they did not think of the consequences of secession to the North until it was pointed to them by the British high commissioner.

It is difficult to say how the situation would have played itself out if the Northern soldiers murdered Yoruba officers. Anything we state can only be conjecture. Besides, at that point in time, the Yorubas read the situation as conflict between the North and the East and preferred to act as mediators. We have debated on numerous occasions the events of that era; I don't want to go into further details.

MAY YOUR DAYS BE LONG!!! smiley

Through out history most JUST wars are won NOT lost! Should i start form king David in the Bible (and the his Mighty men) to the Nazi occupation in Europe or shoud I go to the Hutus and Tutsi? Time and time again, just wars have been won NOT lost. if Biafra was a freedom fight, then why did it lose Why did God not help them win if HE was with Biafra The answer is left for you to think about!!! Do not bother yourself if you are insulted. "LET THE DEAD BURY THE DEAD!!!"

Have a wonderful Christmas! May God be with you and your Family!!! wink

Military strategist my foot. Military strategist for mouth, where were the military strategist when balewa threw Awolowo into prison for treason.

Where were the inept military strategist when Abacha imprisoned all the yoruba generals includind the one who goes about as an aclaimed civil war heroe by the name OBJ and after imprisoning them had abiola's wife slaughtered in lagos.
It seems some people like turning the truth on its head.

By the way for those blaming Nzegwu and other ibos for striking , if they didn't strike Awolowo your heroe would have died in prison .
