I was about to comment on how harsh the parents are but I saw it was a 5years old kid!!! am a Dad of a 4years old boy and would not also take it lightly. it will cause several uneasiness and trauma in the parents,s their kids body been tampered with esp hair, knowing how diabolic Africans are. 2. it may mean the school are given license to sexually molest a child or prowl their privates in the guise of hygiene. 3. the kid must have been terrified and crying at the sight of the abusive behaviour imagine if the parent had walked in then..... me, I would probably beat the teacher like a thief. schools should learn and adapt to the social change and current pandemic and not just be overly bearing on issues of discipline that would land them in prison. |

Angelfrost: You've made no sense. School is not a military camp, we aren't training them to form a coordinated unit in brotherhood, their individualism should be encouraged not just respected So the adults and leaders we have now, what do they have to show for the education they received? Education is not about school only and I can say as an adult that schooling of my generation was outdated, retrogressive and many times oppressive If the parents easily won the school/teachers in court it means their lawyer had wonderful points Points which are clear to everyone actually.... 1 Like 1 Share |

macof:Pending when such laws is enacted we need to respect our teachers and make sure we raise children that will not be spoilt brats that have mind set of my parents will always defend me no matter what I do(good or bad), a child that lacks discipline will one day make the same parents cry and regret. 1 Like |

macof: At the part in bold, a well educated and well brought up individual will not begin a response with such uncouth words. That was unnecessary, impolite and uncalled for... There is such a thing as respect for personal opinions!!! Now, let me repeat myself... Every school has rules and regulations (hence the reference to the army). At no point did I categorically state that both are one and the same. The rule of the thumb is to find the school whose rules are not stringent or restrictive. This is what goes universally!!!... The rules for private schools in U.S are generally far more stringent than those for public schools... So, I don't get what your rant is really all about. Well, your statement with regards to your education is your opinion, and I respect that... I do beg to differ. I enjoyed mine (though I rebelled most of the time), but such discipline shaped my thinking and conditioned me for the success I experience today. On your final points, the court knows what is right. If the rules of the school where well spelt out and clear, then there is no case!!! Cheers!!! 1 Like |

Angelfrost: I didn't read past your first sentence as surely you can't possibly have anything more sensible than the last to say and since your aim is to attack my person rather than the post it proves my point that you made no sense |
Re: Teachers Sent To Prison For Shaving Pupil’s Hair by macof(m): 9:54am On Mar 21, 2020 |
akanbiaa:its hair that grows naturally. How is allowing the hair grow a correlation to being spoilt or lacking discipline?? Parents should defend their child always in the face of bullies and I child should have the feeling that his/her parents will defend them when they are oppressed.. Not when they are wrong |

macof: Good... As suspected. You can give criticisms, but can't take it. You are not a good conversationalist... Please, don't mention people when you have nothing to offer or think you know it all. Bye. 2 Likes |

Angelfrost:oh I can take criticism I just pointed out how your reasoning is You take offensive at your post being called out for what it is and resort to personal attacks And now you call personal attacks criticism.. Lmao.. Please move along, you still don't have something sensible to say |
Re: Teachers Sent To Prison For Shaving Pupil’s Hair by Angelfrost(m): 10:32am On Mar 21, 2020 |
macof: How exactly do you mean??!... I don't take offense at being called out or corrected, or when people point out errors in my submissions... If I took exceptions to criticisms, I would not be this active on Nairaland... You are the one who has a poor and fragile ego... I take exceptions to people feeling the need to respond with insults to my posts regardless of how they feel about them. On what grounds do you respond to a post with words like "You have made no sense"??! Does that reflect courtesy or good breeding??!... Is your own post completely sensible??! Or you don't know the meaning of the term " opinion"??!... Or you don't know condescension borders on insult??! A learned person would retrace or retract, and not plunge further into tirades. Now, you call corrections attack on your person... You see what we are talking about??!... If we can't agree to disagree, and vice versa, then what is the essence of debating or discourse??!... You don't go shoving personal opinions down anyone's throat... Even in nonsense, there is still sense!!! You could easily have pointed out where you have issues with a post, proffer your own wisdom or perspective without being condescending or insulting... That dear friend, is why we go to school. 2 Likes |

Davash222: You made mistake here. Your mummy failed to see your bushy hair, they didn't give you money to shave it. The parents in question here wanted bushy hair for their kids. Not that they were negligent like your parents That's the difference. BTW: why would any school management or teachers have problem with afro hairstyle? 1 Like |
Re: Teachers Sent To Prison For Shaving Pupil’s Hair by maasoap(m): 10:55am On Mar 21, 2020 |
Kiaka8: I'm still trying to understand the moral decay here. The parents preferred afro hairstyle for their kid. Any management or teacher that is not comfortable with that should have taken it up with the parents. The solution would be found in the end. You didn't see anything bad in this simply because we too passed through the same abuse. Now, we're thinking that it is normal and it is the right thing. No it is not, it is an abuse of right that shouldn't have place in modern society 1 Like |

Humphrizy: We suffered different forms of abuse during our time. It has to stop. Right from primary one or two, can't count the number of times those stupid people who called themselves teachers used canes to tear my back skin over minor, harmless and unintentional offences. Some punishments would cause you pain for more than a week (eg, frog jump). I still hate all of them till now. 1 Like |

Kiaka8:A lot of things have changed sir; There was no HIV, hepatitis... at that time? Now parents buy clippers and sometimes shaves their children's hair by themselves. Would you mind your kids sharing blades with their classmates now? We used to share blades to sharpen pencil when I was in primary school. Further more, do you know some people shave people's hair for rituals these days, those things don't happen in those days. A lot have changed sir. |

macof:Then what is the difference between your ideology and that of the Marlians? Well since its not all parents that want same things for their children at least such parent should withdraw their child from such schools that they know they cannot obey their rules and regulations instead of ridiculing and arresting teachers trying to make the lives of of their children better. 1 Like |

maasoap:Excepting one child is corruption itself for other parents will see it as being unjust, and it's not abuse as long as sterilized clippers was used, if you allow just one child to be excepted the next day some parents will even demand that they want their daughter to wear just pants to school of that's what they feel like, others will demand they want their child to have tattoos, others sill say they want their child to sag their trousers, others will say they want their child to drink alcohol since its not a crime etc. Get my point? The only solution is for such parents to look for such schools that places no value on the moral health of their child and wants freedom to do whatever they like and pass exams by hook or crook and leave schools that balances morals with education alone. 1 Like |

Vulcan24:I understand your point but in these case the parents were informed to cut their children's hair if it was you would you cut the hair, ignore the message, or tell the school you want your child's hair as it is? |
Re: Teachers Sent To Prison For Shaving Pupil’s Hair by Vulcan24(m): 12:30pm On Mar 21, 2020 |
akanbiaa: I might obey but may not also be within the time frame cos of time constraint, a lot of parent will av this challenge of time. But it's absurd for teachers to take that initiative of cutting d hair. it's unacceptable to take up the job of a barber in a school, same way police can't execute you for a crime cos he's not a judge it's lack of deep thinking and over ambition that led the teachers to such. That parent is just acting out of fear |
Re: Teachers Sent To Prison For Shaving Pupil’s Hair by macof(m): 12:43pm On Mar 21, 2020 |
akanbiaa:you make it seem as if withdrawing one's child from a school is that simple. Withdrawing a child from one school means you need to enroll said child in another school, several factors can make this cumbersome and or detrimental especially when the potential new school needs to fulfil certain standards or of the time of the year is not fitting Then we talk about the effects changes like that have on the child. If a parent can deal with the teacher and get to school to treat children better, they should. Besides changing school can only solve the problem for one child, what about the many other children whose parents might not have the power to take it up with the school? The parents are the customers, schools are giving a service and being paid for it but you don't seem to realise that 1 Like |

akanbiaa:Wtf How did you manage to see this in an issue of a child letting his hair grow naturally? Comparing this to children drinking alcohol and sagging Just Wtf! |
Re: Teachers Sent To Prison For Shaving Pupil’s Hair by maasoap(m): 1:15pm On Mar 21, 2020 |
akanbiaa: Firstly, it is an abuse. Secondly, how sure are you that whatever that was used was sterilised? Were they informed up to that level, how sure are you about that? Thanks for introducing another perspective into the this. HIV and Hepatitis are real! The school management and the teachers just put themselves into trouble. if you allow just one child to be excepted the next day some parents will even demand that they want their daughter to wear just pants to school of that's what they feel like, others will demand they want their child to have tattoos, others sill say they want their child to sag their trousers, others will say they want their child to drink alcohol since its not a crime etc. Get my point? This classical and typical way of Nigerians whenever they want to trivialise a serious issue. How does afro or low cut relate to nakednes$, tattoos or alcohol. Afro as a hairstyle dosen't in anyway related to indiscipline, my friend. The only solution is for such parents to look for such schools that places no value on the moral health of their child and wants freedom to do whatever they like and pass exams by hook or crook and leave schools that balances morals with education alone. Let's value our culture. Afro hairstyle is African thing, it shouldn't be related to moral decadence. This is the same way some educationists believe that speaking local dialects is vernacular. You want to force "moral health" on someone else's kid behind the parents back, you ended up jeopardising the kid's physical health. Is that not insane? They took too many risks doing what they did my friend. If you are teacher, pls don't be involved in such things like this |
Re: Teachers Sent To Prison For Shaving Pupil’s Hair by maasoap(m): 1:46pm On Mar 21, 2020 |
Angelfrost: Why wouldn't they arrest the teachers now that the teacher had made their kid pass through that terrifying experience and putting his health at great risks? Why did they fail to tell the parents to withdraw their kid? Which part of their rules and regulations were they enforcing? Can they bring out prospectus of their school that forbids afro hairstyle? They might have infected that kid with hepatitis or HIV for all what we know. Using sharpening objects on a kid that has no power to resist, behind the parents should land all the perpetrators in jail, they all deserve prison sentence. My man, you were used to old school abuse just like us too. The difference is that we grew up to realise most of the punishments were abuses and wrong, you on the other hand still believe that schools are military camps even for toddlers! Old Nigeria system has damaged a lot of people, including those teachers and school management. 2 Likes |

This issue has put me in the balance, l don't know who to support anymore. But is as much as l know the teachers had no bad intentions they still had no moral right to shave off the hair of a child without the consent of the parents. And pleading not guilty was to prolong the matter because the law will still catch up with them.. Accepting the offence in the first place would have been better, it could have maybe reduced the sentence or whatever |
Re: Teachers Sent To Prison For Shaving Pupil’s Hair by maasoap(m): 1:59pm On Mar 21, 2020 |
Tosdam: You made it look like that's the only school in town or other schools too forbid afro hairstyle. No need to tell the parents to teach their kids at home for preferring some things for their kids. Tell them that you can't tolerate their preferences, they will find some other schools that don't give shit about afro instead of putting the kid's health at risks? |

OTayobami: Who gave them such right? Definitely not the Nigerian constitution. Ignorant is a disease but not an excuse in front of a judge. They inflicted more than physical wound on the kid. Was the blade, scissors or clipper used sanitised? |

maasoap: Sir, when you put it this way, I can't help but completely concur with you!!!... The teachers went a tad too far. They should have sent the kid home. Point of correction though, there was nothing abusive about enforcing clearly laid down rules and regulations. There still isn't!!!... The only difference now is that rules are less enforced, more room is given for negotiations, etc.... There will always be laid down rules with regards to appearance for students in schools, especially privately owned or missionary schools... Why not query the insistence on low cut hair in missionary and model schools, particular foot wears, etc... What about church owned tertiary institutions??!... Simply look through the school's prospectus, and make up your mind to stay or flee... You don't decide to stay, and begin to question them later. 1 Like |

akanbiaa:I resemble the poster for your eye? My kids hair are always on low cut, since you care to know. What is wrong is wrong... It's wrong for teachers to shave a 5 year old child's hair without the parents consent. So many child right violation going on in Nigerian schools. |
