Aunty Florence, you shaved my hair back in primary school. I went home, my mom gave me 100 to go to the salon and have a clean cut. I went to school the following day, Aunty Florence used me as example of how good and neat pupils should look.
Aunty Florence taught me how to keep clean hair cut. I was wondering then, how come my mom didn't notice my bushy hair?

Today's parents are worse!! Yes, I said it.

God bless our Teachers!

what if the parents allowed the bushy hair because of spiritual belief!

What if the child died because it was recommended to the parents that his hair must not be cut!

What if the razor/clipper/scissors used in cutting the hair was contaminated!

Just what IF!

The best thing would have been to send the child back home or invite the parents to the school.

I'll answer you
As a kid going to school, you looking unkempt gives the impression that your parents are dirty and irresponsible.

Also it gives the school and it's management bad image and poor representation.

As an adult your hair style can make you look like a rogue or irresponsible.

Let me ask you a question
Why do you think the court decides to leave the welfare and upbringing of the child in the hands of those considered sound and responsible?
How does long hair mean you look unkempt. This doesn't answer the question. If the hair was untidy then that is a different case but seeing how the parents handled things I highly doubt that.

All the older generations that shaved and always look responsible when there was nothing like marlians, where are they now? What is the present situation of the country? Has this country ever got it right since it's existence without the help of the white men?
Hypocrites

HM.. Reminds me of my secondary school days.
I went to school with layers haircut as senior girl concern. Then one female teacher ( very wicked) was waiting for us at the Assembly ground she asked all the seniors to take off their berets omor come and see different hair cuts. From crazejones to anitabaker, to layers ( my favorite) to punk, hahahaha...that was how she chopped off the styles and we all went on low cut buy still put small styles like rough curls as hot babes then.
Wetin concern parents. Parents these days are over pampering children too much. Reasons we have do many over grown babies paraded as adults.

As a teacher though, I wouldnt subscribe to touching any child's hair. The worst I'll do is send the child home

Which one is this country? Try it in the US first, you will wish you were never born. The amount you would pay for damages would ruin you and your family.

Na my child.. Why can't she come and tell me first.. 5 year old for that matter
you are a child... You will outgrow this nonsense you wrote.... Even though what the teachers did was wrong you can't give anybody command because you paid all that... You better keep your child at home and teach him or her

It's unfortunate that the school's authority take no blame or responsibility in this.
Recruitment for teachers especially in this day should not bethat technical, but based on emotional intelligence.

Both parties in this case are wrong.
I.e if it was in the school rules and regulations that students can't keep their hairs untidied therefore teachers have the right to do what ever they can to the hair as punishment as long as it doesn't inflict physical wound on the faulted student and this leaves me with a mighty question as to where those teachers got their lawyers from?
But then punishments like that on a 5 years old (minor) kid takes extra I.e you have do it without humiliation
The school is wrong, it would have been better they sent that kid home than shave his public hair

That is regarded as an abuse in Western country and might be jail for it so Teachers no matter how bushy child hair is shaving pupil hair its not part of your duty you have really overstepped your boundary.

There is boundary to everything. Sorry I have nothing more to say than to wish them good luck in the trail and these will serve as a lesson to overzealous teachers.
I agree with you

So because you were able to pay the school fees your children shout disobey the set rules? If you can't follow the rules then take her to another school.... failed parents.

This thread made me call my mum who has been a government secondary school teacher for 35years and she supports the parents.. She said the school is 100% wrong and ought to have sent the child home instead of tampering with the physical appearance of the child.

Fvck the mumus here supporting the school.. Shame on you all!

Simplyleo:
At 5, the appearance or turn out of a child is entirely the decision and responsibility of the parents. If a teacher or school has issues with the turn out of a 5 year old pupil, the best is to contact the parents and address it accordingly.

You don't just pick up razor blade and start shaving the hair of a 5 year old without the consent or knowledge of her parents.

Any teacher tries that shyt with me must pay for it. undecided
up shut pls ...talk ur annoying is

I believe school management have rules and regulations. So if that wasn't part of the rules then the teacher was wrong in a way. But the management of the school should have done something to avert the trial in court.

Five years is too tender to have his or her hair shaved without parents consent. If it is 7 years up I won't have problem with that but 5 years is just too tender.

I guess people like you are the reason why Buhari is Nigeria's president.

You allow people violate your right because 'aunty florence' brainwashed you and your mother didn't notice that your right was violated.

You have no right as a teacher to cut your student's hair without their parents consent. They are not your children. You have no right as a teacher to physically abuse another's child by flogging or punching.

Do that to mine, and I will go to jail for life on your a$$.

No. Morals and socialisation are my jurisdiction as a parent. And child abuse in the name of injustice is neither moral nor good socialisation. A good teacher should be able to enforce discipline without abusing his/her students, especially when the child has no power to change the fault he is accused of. Do you expect a child of 5 years to go to the barber by himself? A degree in education is supposed to equip them to understand how to enforce discipline appropriately and justly.

We will stop victimisation of teachers only when they stop the victimisation of our children. The economy is not our children's fault.

I was well beaten, i felt bad, i look back and i thank God, each time i was asked to join cult in University i just de remember the beating i got from my chemistry teacher for ganging up to slap someone......western idea of societal values and ours differ... Its my thinking though, what do i know.

It could be the parents are Rastafarians as it's normal for them to wear dreadlocks.
It could also have to do with the parents religious leanings as some white garment churches do not Barb their children hair until they reach a certain age.

You don't dictate for another parent the hairstyle you have chosen for your own child.

As you have chosen, others have chosen.

Some parents like gorimapa, while others love low cut, and some love afro.

Parents have the right to decide for their kids, while every adult has the right to decide for him/herself.

We have heard you... Home schooling is always an option for over sabi parents!!!
