ignis: When the same Nigerians were calling government officials to close boarder to some countries and compulsory 14days quarantine knowing fully well its difficult to close open market, shut down transport system etc, where were you? You godfathers were busy keep boarder open so they can travel abroad and now even Buhari can't go for medical tourism again. |

executive12: Is it the government that is littering the whole place with garbage? We as a people also have the responsibilty to keep the environment clean. A dirty city is a reflection of the people inhabiting the city. |

ignis:why didn't he close border at the first place? If you have not wedded, may Nigeria government borne out of thier tradtional ineptude and inaction, reschedule presidential election on the day of your wedding after some of your guest from outside the country are already in the country. Our nature as Nigerians is when it doesn't affect us, we will be talking anyhow from our comfort zone as if it is easy. that is wickedness. see how many likes you've got for being insensitive. |

philip0906: Like I said. We can if we want. Like right now a lot of people still don't think the virus is fatal (which was what the Italians thought at first ). By the time death rate starts souring high u no go even need govt to force u to do what u got to do. By the way how can u compare Ebola and lassa fever to covid 19? Yes they have much greater mortality rate but can easily be contained as u need physical contact with the fluid of the infected to get infected. They are not airborne like covid 19. I'm fact covid 19 is one of the fastest spreading disease the world has ever seen. |

greenhulk:No matter how covid 19 spreads, it's still not deadly. Around 80% of victims have mild symptoms while many are asymptomatic. The most vulnerable, have been the elderly and those with weakened immune system. The only reason why you're making noise about it, is because it affected the "oyinbo" and they're grinding the world to a halt, as a result. If it did not affect them, no matter how communicable covid is, you won't see it as a big deal, since "oyinbo" did not declare it deadly. |
Re: Coronavirus: Lagos State Goverment Disrupts Party, Seals Event Centers by Nobody: 4:14pm On Mar 22, 2020 |
philip0906: U still don't get it. Yes it's not very deadly but it can be very devastating as a big chunk of the population can get infected at the same time. By that time there will be no one to take care of the infected as all medical facilities would be filled up, doctors and nurses would be infected, even self quarantine would be difficult by then because where u want stay when everyone don get infected? See eh. Covid 19 is a sickness that people don't need to die from, but when there are too many infected there will be shortage of medical supply. Do u know many people would die if a big chunk of the population contract malaria at the same time. That is a disease that normally don't kill so far u use anti malaria drugs. And nobody is talking about total lock down. Nigeria have not reached that stage. Just do as much as u can to reduce the rate of infection, that's all the govt and WHO is asking. Social distancing, washing ur hands all the time. These things won't stop the spread but would reduce the rate of spread. Enough time for the sick to get taken care of without over flowing the hospitals and maybe enough time before a drug can be found. South Korea and Japan did not lock down their country and they are managing the virus because there citizens are doing the right thing. |

greenhulk:Valid points... Unfortunately, Nigeria is not setup for those kind of things to work here. Social distancing can ONLY work in organized societies where the literacy level is high and great economies. Nigeria has a large uneducated populace as well as millions of informal businesses that cannot practice social distancing. |

Why |
Re: Coronavirus: Lagos State Goverment Disrupts Party, Seals Event Centers by Nobody: 4:50pm On Mar 22, 2020 |
philip0906: It's a collective tax for everyone. Nigeria is not a country where we want total lockdown, it would be devastating. A lot cannot eat if they don't go out and the government cannot sustain us. But the little u can do to limit the spread, do it. If that place u are going is not necessary then don't go. Majority are hoping that the virus would not be as potent in Africa as it is in Europe and America. We all hope so, but we cannot depend on 'hope' without doing the little we can do. |

Re: Coronavirus: Lagos State Goverment Disrupts Party, Seals Event Centers by Nobody: 9:21pm On Mar 26, 2020 |
philip0906: Thank God u realise that many infected with the virus are asymptomatic. This is the main reason why it is dangerous and why WHO recommend enough testing. An asymptomatic patient will keep spreading the disease without knowing he has it, but if he has been tested positive he can be isolated to prevent him from spreading. This is the reason the rate of infection in the USA is growing really fast, because there are not enough testing kits. If u don't show symptoms u don't get tested. Whereas in South Korea they carry out up to 15,000 tests per day, they try to test as many as they can without having symptoms. This way they can isolate the infected. This is why they still have less than 10,000 cases even though the country has been one of the first to get the virus long before it started spreading to Western countries. At the moment south Korea have less than 5,000 active cases. |
