Union Bank said it has closed a branch at Ikota, Lagos after its employee had a contact with a “now confirmed” case of novel coronavirus three weeks ago.

The bank said another employee at the same branch was at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards on March 14. Lagos State Government said the event was attended by someone who later tested positive for coronavirus. It advised everyone who attended the industry event to self-isolate.

“Neither of the involved persons or others in the branch have exhibited any symptoms,” Union Bank said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

“However, all staff of the branch have been advised to self-isolate with immediate effect.”

The bank said the branch will undergo a “deep hygiene clean-up” and will reopen with a new set of relief employees while the current ones isolate.

Another Nigerian bank, Access Bank, Monday, closed its branch at Ligali Ayorinde in Victoria Island after a former staff of the bank who visited the branch tested positive for coronavirus.

“We have confirmed that an individual who visited our Ligali Ayorinde branch on Monday 16th March 2020, has tested positive for coronavirus,” Access Bank said in a statement on Monday.

“He was symptom-free as at the time of visit and he is currently being monitored at an Isolation Centre in Yaba.”

At least 18,259 deaths have been recorded since the virus first emerged in December, according to an AFP tally compiled at 1900 GMT on Tuesday based on official sources.

More than 404,020 declared cases have been registered in 175 countries and territories.

Italy has suffered the most deaths with 6,820, out of 69,176 declared infections.

Jeromejnr:
I have been seeing some deluded Athiest on here bashing religion and saying things like all religions (especially Christianity) are waiting for scientists to find a cure then they will thank God instead of the scientists.

First of all, many of those scientists are Christian's.

Secondly, most of the drugs you enjoy today were discovered by Christians e.g. Penicillin.

Thirdly, Hospitals were first founded by Christians.

Fourthly, United States were most of these cures come from was founded by strong Christian fathers who gave the country a good foundation.

Lastly, Athiests enjoy the benefits of Christian prayers today (although they don't know it). Because of this, most of them are still alive. But with that same breath, they choose to curse God.

So the question is, what has Athiesm contributed to the world?

Not up to Ten centuries ago when modern science was still young, Galileo Galilei, a Catholic, was standing before a criminal court which was also Ecclesiastical (christian bishops were part of the court). Skeptical Galileo had worked on his telescope , he was not lying. He saw that there were other planets and that the Earth revolved around the sun. In his time, religion was mixed with governance and not distinct from the State of Rome.

Galileo, like other scientists of his time , was at the verge of being sentenced to death for apostasy and blasphemy. The government not only beheaded scientists in that dark age, but also hung and burnt them on stake. Why was the Father of Modern Day Astronomy, the one whose foundational argument about the solar system has led to the establishment of space organizations like NASA today, risking a death sentence at a christian court?

The answer is simple. According to Joshua in the Bible when he went to war (would be termed a genocide today) he prayed to God and the "Sun stood still". The christian court argued that if Joshua in the Bible agreed that it was the "sun that stood still" then it means the sun was the moving solar body for nothing that does not move can stand still. The Christian court also argued that David in his Psalms acknowledged that God makes sun to rise from the East and set in the West. How then could a "stupid scientist" argue that the sun does not move . How could such "fool" rather the earth revolves.

There is no doubt that Galileo was a Catholic and a christian. But there is huge doubt that Christianity influenced his breakthrough in science. Christianity wanted to alter , disrupt and hinder his breakthrough. Christianity wanted him dead for apostasy and blasphemy even though he agreed to being a Christian. What do you think would happen if he outrightly said he was not one?

That's the story you do not see. When we talk about science and religion , we are not asking whether a Christian, Muslim , Buddhist or Atheist made a positive breakthrough in science. No, the procedures of science are Universal and as long as a person of any religion , race or gender follows that procedure, he will arrive at a scientific and real conclusion.
When we argue about science and religion we argue whether a telescope or a bible gave humanity initial knowledge about the status of the solar system.

When we argue about science and religion we argue whether it is a hand sanitizer (based on reason) or an anointing oil ( based on faith ) that washes away strains of the Coronavirus in our palms.

Well you should have carried this your reply to that same coronavirus thread for proper understanding because this particular thread is talking about Union bank shutting their bank because of corona.

This is time for total lock down, no one should be seen on the street

Tho in my country, this is not possible otherwise hunger will kill more than the virus itself

But at least let all organized institutions be close down till further notice

Truly, staying at home remains the only leverage the masses have to stop the spread of this virus. Social activities exposes one to carriers who might not even show symptoms of the disease.

Many untested and unrecorded infected persons who thinks their ill health is due to malaria, typhoid or common cold are everywhere mingling with people.

I am really tired of repetitive journalism. First two paragraphs is the news.

The next two or more paragraphs is saying what the first two paragraphs said but in a different way.

Why not pay the citizens money like other countries have done. Let them buy food at home and declare total Lockdown.

Why should we wait till things get worst.

All these people went abroad to bring this virus down to Nigeria, they will still keep all the ventilator for themself and there family

Well there will be no much tears if non of them recovered. They put us where we are right now and if you can still see the damage they still plan doing then you will know Corona blessing in disguise to Nigerians.

No single f**k given.

Remember the missionaries.
