The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline along Ojukwu Street, Navy Town axis of Satellite Town in Lagos is leaking.

This was confirmed on Thursday by the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, to the News Agency of Nigeria.

He, however, gave the assurance that “technicians from the NNPC have been alerted to the danger and are on top of the situation”.

“We received an alert Thursday evening and upon arrival, it was discovered that an NNPC pipeline along the axis at Ojukwu street, Navy Town was leaking.

“We contacted the NNPC who dispatched a repair team to the location.

“The agency and other first responders intend to remain on high alert until the repairs being carried out by NNPC are fully completed,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The LASEMA boss, however, urged members of the public to proceed with extreme caution in and around the area to prevent any form of explosion or ignition from naked flame or other activity.

Oke-Osanyintolu also pledged to provide an update to the public concerning the pipeline leakage.

This coming 12 days after the March 15 pipeline explosion at Abule Ado, Lagos which left over 20 persons dead while many houses and vehicles were destroyed.

It is very important owing to the fact that this pipeline at Ojukwu Street is a few kilometres from Ado-Soba where the last explosion took place.

According to reports, the first explosion happened four days after NNPC had been there for repairs. I will stay way for one week after this repair.

....Exactly, better safe than sorry.

Any naked flame can ignite an explosion. The pipeline has been leaking for sometime, so it is expected that NNPC will come fix it today or tomorrow at the earliest.

It is imperative however, that extreme caution is needed around that area now.
