Seun: The test kits are not available. What would you have them do - leave people to walk around and increase the spread of the virus exponentially while waiting for a reasonable number of test kits to be available? There isn't even a test center in Ekiti - closest one is in Ibadan. A shutdown is much easier to enforce than social distancing or compulsory use of face masks (which face masks, by the way? The ones that have been sold out or being price-gouged such that the vast majority cannot afford to buy enough? Dont forget that most of the masks are single-use and using them multiple times would even likely spread the virus). This way, they can just ensure that the virus is contained and respond to calls of symptoms by picking the affected people and taking them for testing, thus conserving the available test kits as well. The notion that this measure was taken so as to get "mindless praise" is absurd. All countries and states that are being affected significantly by this virus are introducing shutdowns of different degrees - are they all looking for mindless praise. TLDR: WHO's advise to test is not mutually exclusive with curtailing movement, and the latter is even potentially easier to implement and more effective at curtailing the spread of the virus because testing only has value to the extent that the cases are isolated and treated, not when there's a continuous exponential rise in infected people who then overwhelm the state's ability/resources to test and treat. |

Angrymode: This is why a lockdown is the only option for a country with limited resources. In 14 days those with the virus will either become sick and report themselves or their bodies will fight the virus and they will become healed but because they are in quarantine, isolation they will not be able to infect others. So if a lockdown is implemented properly, in theory after 14 days, those without symptoms are theoretically safe and cant infect anyone. |

Lumig: I only reply you so as not to allow you misinform readers. The last time I checked, Ekiti has 3 teaching hospitals, about 5 specialist hospitals, general hospital with ambulance in each local government area. Health centres and maternity home in every other community. There are also competent health workers in these establishments... there are also lots of private hospitals and clinics. When it comes to health facilities, Ekiti Is still better than many states Can you please tell us your state and let's compare. Don't also forget to submit all Nigerian states health facilities' statistics to show Ekiti as the worst... |

Seun: Which mask? Nigerians are just gullible. I wore mask to work and most of them be looking at me like I'm an alien and trying to discourage me. They don't understand the mask serves two purpose, to prevent me from getting the virus and prevent me from giving them (that's if I don't know if I'm positive or not) please y'all out there should stop discouraging people putting on the mask biko. The man who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the man doing it. |
