A commander on the battle field does not speak to his Chief or the Commander-In-Chief via a recorded video in the presence of his men. There’s a formal medium of communication in the military and it is through a brief in person, in writing or via a military line of telecom.

Whether leaked or not, statutorily the video move in the presence of his men was wrong, and Gen. Adeniyi knows this very well! It is gross insubordination. But he took a gamble and made advantage of the viral nature of social media. And it worked! You and I now have access to classified information.

The COS isn’t there to stop anyone from passing the message direct to the C-in-C this time around.
Except that BH also has access to this as well and will be gloating over a general of the Nigerian Army frustratingly complaining. That’s the down side. Nevertheless, General Adeniyi remains a HERO.

General Adeniyi knew the implication of making this direct video to the president who is the commander-in-chief. In addition to his removal, he may subsequently be court martialled and dismissed and relieved of his commission for gross insurbodination. There is a chain of command and I don’t think he can bypass the COAS and speak directly to the president.

Obviously his message was to the commander-in-chief, the man on whose desk the buck stops. Very wise move by the general, but obviously a costly one. He made himself the sacrificial lamb in trying to bring attention to the plight of his men who he saw first hand in fatality and injury.

You really do not know the events that compelled this man to make this video. He is a brave man to have taken up such position. He fights not only Boko Haram but also elements from the NA who give intel to insurgents and at the same time deprive him of such vital info.
