OBJ did not really place Railway construction as his priority although towards the end of his tenure in 2007 he tried to award
contract for the Lagos - Kano line which the Yar'Adua govt cancelled. OBJ's priority was on electricity generation. During his tenure.
about nine power generation plants in Omotosho, Odukpani, Papalanto, Geregu, Alaoji, Egbema, Olorunsogo, Sapele etc were being constructed simultaneously

The GEJ govt dismantled the gigantic Lagos - Kano line into four phases while working out a funding arrangement with China. The agreement was for the Nigerian govt to pay 15% for each phase upfront while China provides the balance as loans. It started with the Abuja - Kaduna, then followed by Lagos - Ibadan and so on until the entire Lagos - Kano is completed.

Nigeria must look beyond oil export and focus on Natural Gas, Petrol Chemical, Fertiliser, Methanol, Bitumen and Refine oil export.

The Netherland and Qatar earn more money from exporting industries oil by-products than crude oil. The country should focus on reviving the four refineries and developing the large bitumen deposits in Ondo state.

The upward trend actually kicked in in his second term.

Still OBJ and GEJ developed Abuja to what it is today. If you ever visited Abuja in 1998, you would understand the difference.
The numerous massive expressways, new cities and estates you see in Abuja today are the handiwork of OBJ and GEJ in particular.

Besides paying off our debts to secure debt forgiveness, OBJ implemented a 100% increase in minimum wage from #3,500 - #7,500.
GEJ did a 150% increase from #7,500 to #18,000. Yar'Adua's 3yrs unfortunately was a period of the global meltdown (you remember?)

So, the different past governments had their different challenges. Oil fluctuated around $80 - $104 only from 2012 to mid 2014. It was never

What you say is true and already overseas remittances from Nigerians in diaspora have already exceeded crude oil proceeds. However the once in a "lifetime gift" of high oil prices would have provided investment in all the areas you mention. Everything you have mentioned comes with a price tag. To make it worse our "youth bulge" challenge means the time to market for any of these assets you mentioned, effectively sacrifices an entire generation of youth.

I point out these things not be way of simply blaming a period of administration on Nigeria, but rather that as a nation we may fully appreciate where we are, how we got there and the effort and time it will take to extricate ourselves. Once we understand this, we will be able to resist the false promises of politicians and look instead to creating a new paradigm. It will mean upskiling, retooling and retraining a generation who wanted to work in a "big company " and it will mean being patient with the necessarybrollnoutbof infrastructure. Without coming to this point, politicians will seize their day with false promises of a quick and painless turnaround.

Oil has built Lagos, Abuja, Port-Harcourt, Kaduna and many modern capital cities across the country, over a hundred government own universities, ports, roads, rails refineries, steel plants, petrochemical plants, fertilizers and aluminium smelter plants. Nigeria is the only African country with four major oil industrial cities, in Onne, Bonny island, Lekki\Dangote and Escravos. The country has more than enough infrastructure to industrialised.

I disagree. Oil even after vovid continues to have an important role to play in financing diversification. With 3% growth rate and an implied devaluation of 7% per annum on the naira, the truth is that the country must dollarize. Without oil providing a floor for dollarization where is the growth going to come from. Yes we know we should diversify. But do the Nigeriannpopulation understand the pains of foing that without even the lowest of oil revenues? Many people cant even bear the pain of sitting at home for 14 days - are these the people that will manage economic shock?

I recall Idiagbon saying there will never be another oil boom in 1984, at that time oil price fell to $10 per barrel, Nigeria waited for 20 years doing nothing until 2006 when the price of oil hit $60 p/b and still did nothing with the money, it's obvious that oil renting is the cause of our poverty and corruption.

Now that there is no oil money, I will like to see the president and governors next actions.
