The Unwanted Federal Donor

You donate cash to the federal government to help fight the Coronavirus, right? Great!

Did the federal government inform you they didn't have sufficient funds?
Have you asked them to give account of the hundreds of billions expropriated for healthcare all these years?

You and I know that whatever goea into their pockets disappears but you chose to donate to them! Well, I believe you didn't really donate to fight the Coronavirus but to secure your position with the federal government! Don't insult our intelligence with 'I donate this to the FG to fight COVID-19'. What in tarnation are you smoking?

If you wanna really help with funds to help fight the Coronavirus, go to your state, speak with your governor, select a general hospital, upgrade it with the best equipment and the best medical practitioners, help them set up a medical database centre too, then massively help test your people... and treat those that might have been infected!

...or donate directly to the states doing the actual job!

Those that pretend to give to the federal government to fight Coronavirus are either insulting our intelligence, or surprisingly stupid! Yes, the federal government would recognize them and compensate them with favours later, but those donations have nothing to do with the Coronavirus! You may donate to the federal government all you want, but leave us out of it; we are not grateful. Thank you very much!

Imagine Emeka Offor donating 12 billion and you tell me it's not for future oil deals.

The biggest impact of such funds is at the state or regional level; those that donate to the federal government are absolutely ridiculous!

Despite all your skeptism, the most accountable level of government remains fgn. Governors are emperors into themselves and use the state house of assembly as their rubber stamp. The state governors are accountable to no one. At least at federal level national assembly and judiciary still provide some resistance and accountability. There are also many measures adopted to ensure accountability like TSA, FOI, IPPIS, EFCC etc. In the states there is nothing. They don't even have procurement laws. Governor can wake up one morning and tell commissioner of finance to put all state money in his account.

So sir your criticism and suggestions only exist at the level of fantasy. In reality fgn remains the only organ that can fight covid. Period.

FG is very useful in the fight, but I believe the state level has the greater power to tackle the virus. Each state have millionaires and billionaires, they should come together and help their states. FG level is too corrupt and its difficult to hold anyone accountable, but at the state level everybody knows you and so it's difficult to mess up especially in this critical time that people are hungry and angry.

You are right, but what I am trying to say is that when a man is being pushed to the wall and he's only option is to fight back, it will be difficult for those responsible to escape especially in this corona period. When hunger and the disease hit them they will fight them. With that in mind, the sponsors will be more transparent than in the federal level because they know the people knows them well to their house doorsteps.

State government are very corrupt too. If the national orientation agency is working, the moral aspect of the citizens needs to be corrected, the older generation have failed seriously, so much greed and selfishness. Normally, the state and local government level should have been the closest avenue of development to the people. But as you said it's not possible due to the cause of the people themselves. Our moral standard is very poor, we don't value our brothers and sisters. Oppression is what drives most people to go into politics, just to intimate one's country man. The only way the federal government level can work in this corona case in my own opinion is if the head of state is sincere and ready to work, he should jail anyone found embezzling funds meant for the care of people without being tribalistic and nepostic in he's dealings.
