What happened to postponing the wedding? Nigerians like to rush.

The less the expenses, the better for the couple.

See the bride squeezing face.

If it was an extravagant wedding, the groom will be squeezing while the bride is smiling

Exactly. The archaic Nigerian culture makes our women self centred. If marriage expenses was shared 50-50, the women will also be happy to have low key weddings. But because the man takes care of the whole expenses, the ladies long for extravagant weddings.

She might, they are both involved na. Besides why would he force a wedding in this kind of period, when everyone is worried about Covid-19 and the stress of it all..

The bride is even not settled.. The guy must be shallow minded... Parlour wedding like a kid's birthday party.. What kind of wedding night would they even have...

The sadness on her face and the crooked smile on his face gives the impression that the guy is a stubborn sadist.

Marriage isn't a child's play... what a way to start.

Which is more childish..... Spending 450k in less than 4hours and skipping the cost and still get married?

Use your teeth to count your tongue.... grin
if husband and wife have chosen to marry in a simple way, what's the fuss about bitching over irrelevances

Reception?
lol. Yes nah.. Most people cancelling their weddings now are doing so mostly because it wouldnt feel like an event to them if people dont attend to celebrate with them. But one can still get joined and organise reception for friends and family after covid-19.

The Legality of this remains unclear.

This marriage, if preceded by traditional arrangements like payment of bride price and other tribal or traditional marriage requirements- will pass as valid under customary law.
It won't pass for a valid marriage under the MA (Marriage Act) because some one's parlour will not be recognized by a competent court of law, as a licenced place for celebrating marriage.

So here is the good news: they could be married customarily, (if all things are equal).

But ignorance and our way of life in Nigeria will not allow people learn important issues bordering on marriage according to the Act.

Even many so called church marriages have been voided by the court for lack of adherence to the rules and proceedure. However, the courts are inclined to save marriages than desolve them, but parlour marriage may be alien and novel both to the lawyers and the court.

This is how it ought to be..

What is the fuse in calling all the town, in the name of doing wedding ceremony. Some will even borrow money for the event, and later go broke in the real marriage.

From their, problems will start. A woman that you get wedded to, that you can't feed well due to paucity of funds, will now start to complain, nag and cause problems.

Na like that many homes dey take end..

Wedding is just a ceremony.. Marriage is the main deal..

Happy married life to this smart lovers.. They saved cost.. I wish them well.
