Now, Dr Ehanire the health minister must withdraw his statement that ventilators may not be necessary in the treatment of covid-19 patients. As a medical doctor, he ought to know that it's not everybody walking on the street that has a perfect health status. Some have one underlying ailment or the other. In as much as covid-19 isn't a death sentence, he should also know better of the dimension the pandemic has taken so far, in dealing with people globally, especially those with underlying illnesses who also stand a chance of being badly hit and a ventilator would be required in such a critical stage. Instead of him to accept the blame of not being prepared for the challenge, he was spewing bunkum.

A Nigeria of well over 200m population having less than 300 ventilators isn't acceptable. CBN too has closed the foreign transfer channels thereby prevent people from ordering ventilators to rescue Nigerians from covid-19. As we speak, we learnt both Form Q and Form M windows have been blocked by the CBN which has made it difficult for companoes dealing in medical equipment from paying for the ventilators they've ordered. There are old people around us who are susceptible who stand a chance of ending up on a ventilator. Dr Ehanire's claim is a commonplace when you have a round peg in a square hole. The massive departure of diplomats and foreign nationals from Nigeria as witnessed recently is justifiable. They must have seen ahead, what we didn't see. God have mercy on us.

For whatever it takes, the government should ensure that we never slide into the situation in Italy or New York.

...for the sake of humanity.
