PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY TO NIGERIANS

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

To reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19, members of the public are advised to adhere to the following measures:

Wash your hands frequently with soap under running water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based sanitiser if water is not available.
Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness. Maintain at least 2 metres (5 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing repeatedly

Do not mingle with people or congregate if you feel unwell with symptoms like fever, cough, sneezing or difficulty breathing.

Cover your mouth and nose properly with a tissue paper when sneezing and/or coughing. Dispose of the tissue properly immediately after use. You may also cough into your elbow if a tissue is not available.

Obey national and state directives requesting the cancellation and avoidance of large gatherings, including places of worship, social and sporting events. -Ncdc

There are many drugs in clinical trial as scientists work towards finding a cure for #COVID19. Some have shown promising results in lab studies but have not yet been proven in humans.

Please avoid self-medication as it may lead to complications & death.

 #COVID19Nigeria UPDATE

NCDC has issued an advisory to guide Nigerians on the use of face masks, and recommends that face masks are worn:

1. As an optional added layer of physical distancing, and to be disposed of properly after use.

2. While in crowded settings, like markets.

3. Used in combination with social distancing, hand washing, respiratory hygiene & disinfection of surfaces.

It is critical to ensure proper handling of masks. Improper disposal & frequent touching can increase risk of infection with the #COVID19 virus.

PLEASE NOTE - Due to a global shortage of face masks:

1. Medical masks are best preserved for patients & healthcare workers who need them most.

2. Make use of improvised options such as cloth masks.

Improvised face masks can be used as long as they are properly washed regularly. They can be made out of cloth or other materials.

Even at this time, as we mourn loved ones lost to COVID-19, including recently deceased Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, we need to refrain from attending mass gatherings to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

Let us #StaySafe and protect each other.

#COVID19 is primarily spread through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes or speaks .

It is important to keep a distance of 2 metres (5 feet) away from people because you can't identify who has the virus
