THE Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, said on Monday a group of criminals, who had been stockpiling arms and ammunition and terrorising residents of the state, were hiding in Anambra.

This is just as the Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mustapha Dandaura, said the command had begun a manhunt for the suspects involved in arms stockpiling in the state.


Speaking at the Government House in Port Harcourt before inspecting weapons, including a rocket launcher, recovered by ‘Operation Sting’ in a forest in the Ogu/Bolo LGA, the state governor said the state government was working to make Rivers safe.

He said, “They (the criminals) went to the forest, they dug the ground and bury arms and ammunition there. When they want to operate, they go there, dig them up, clean them up and operate. When they finish, they come back. That is their modus operandi.

 “They operate here and move to Anambra State and stay. They come back, operate and move back. But when God says enough is enough, there is nothing they can do about it.”

Earlier, the state Police Commissioner, Mustapha Dandaura, explained that investigation was going on to apprehend those behind the stockpiling of arms in a forest in Rivers and also to know the motive behind the act.

Dandaura said Operation Sting initiated by the state governor had made the hitherto troublesome East-West Road safe for motorists, adding that the Elele-Owerri Road and the Ogoni axis of the East-West Road had become safe.

We have been advocating for state borders right from time.

A reasonable state government should erect high wall at her border gates.

Obiano should prioritise this because it is necessary ....
